 "The Ant" is an illustration of modern management, and how more time and money is spent watching, collecting data and compiling reports than actually doing the job in hand.

Here's a lighthearted look at management:  post modified by username! section moderator using Catherine's text

LOL.  Truth is stranger than fiction.

My best friend in high school was totally disgusted with B-school, which he said explessly taught you how to run and bleed a department dry so you get promoted on the basis of the increase in production, so your replacement gets fired for cleaning up your mess.

The time clock reminded me of when I went to go visit my friend's summer job (he hadn't been there either yet), in a packing/mail room.  It was about 10 to 5, and I was looking at the poster saying "If you are 1 minute late, you are docked 5 minutes pay. If you are 5 minutes late, you are docked 15 minutes pay.  If you are 10 minutes late, do not come in."  He laughed, ribbing me about my tardiness.  "Wait until 5," I replied. "What happens at 5?" he asked.  "You'll see."

At 5 everyone dropped whatever they were doing-literally.  The floor was strewn with mail and packages all over, dropped where ever the person carrying it was when the hand struck 5.

I said: "I got the impression that if you stayed over 1 minute, you didn't get 5 minutes pay."

Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
                           and both come out of your mouth

Sadly, this sounds all too familiar. .
