Just IM me so we don't look like we're advertising or selling things through the Forum.
Also, how many notches are on them?

A prayer stick is used by the ETOC for prayers, like our prayer rope.

http://africa.si.edu/exhibits/icons/faith.html# scroll all the way down and you'll see the top of one, which fixes to a long pole. They're great for standing during long services.

Could you provide any photo? I'm sorry but I've never heard of them.

I'm pretty sure these are prayer sticks in this video:

In reply 11 of this thread:

http://www.orthodoxchristianity.net/forum/index.php/topic,16200.msg232669.html#msg232669

one of our Ethiopian posters talks about that video and the prayer sticks.

Another video where you see them is the third one down in reply 133 here:

CUTENESS WARNING:  Upon watching that last video, you may be overcome by an overwhelming urge to go AWWWWWWW!    Smiley

Man, that was cute!

Anyway, I think the Makomiya (prayer sticks) are awesome. I read somewhere that one of the symbolic interpretations for using the drum and stick is - the stick represents the sound of the stripes that hit His back (Christ) and the drum is the sound of the slaps He took in the face. And they have a dual purpose, standing and praying the notches (instead of knots), so I thought, Wow!, how convenient! I could stand in church much longer this way!  Grin
You think anyone would mind in the Eastern Church if I was using this?

Sorry to call it a prayer stick, I hear that term mostly from people who don't know the Ge'ez name for it.
