Western medicine gives us things like antibiotics, contact lenses, vitamins, immunizations, and a ton of other things that extend our life spans. I have no affinity for voodoo medicine, especially when people use it over a life saving "Western" pharmaceutical.
Agreed. I hate when people label and generalize, and it seems the "Western medicine" v. "Eastern medicine" is a false debate. Use what works, in consultation with experts in the field. Check the credentials of any self-proclaimed expert; in the States, the AMA, ADA, and APA all have high standards of education and practice, and thus are reliable sources for determining who is professionally and ethically competent. There are many professional organizations for specialists, as well, such as the American Chiropractic Association, American Nurses' Association, and many others. Find out all you can about your medical professional and their recommended treatment, regardless of what side of the globe either originated. It just makes good sense.
