Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has lauded the Orthodox Church for establishing health care facilities and schools in the country.
Mr. Musyoka said the schools and facilities have enabled many Kenyans to access both education and medical care.
Mr. Musyoka made the remarks Tuesday in his Jogoo House office when he received the Orthodox Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and all Africa who had paid him a courtesy call.
The Orthodox leader said the church would continue developing health facilities and schools not only in Kenya but also in other African countries.
He said Kenya has made big steps in development and hoped the country would continue to remain peaceful and politically stable.
Egyptian ambassador to Kenya, Mr. Saher Hamza said the Orthodox Church headquartered in Alexandria has shown the best example of religious tolerance where Christianity and Islam exist side by side.
"This is what we need to encourage in order to reduce tension based on religious lines", he added.
