Top 10 bass guitarists. This one is especially hard for me as I play and have so many influences. But here they are. 1) Geddy Lee (Rush)--the man who inspired me to play 2) Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath) 3) Cliff Burton (Metallica)--beautifully crafted bass lines 4) Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)--mr. marathon on bass 5) Jack Bruce (Cream) 6) Jaco Pastorius--shame he died so young 7) Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel/King Crimson/BLUE/solo)--funk fingers are awesome John Entwhistle (The Who) 9) John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) 10) Billy Sheehan (Talos/David Lee Roth/Steve Vai)

(in no particular order and obviously a little case of girl power I have been playing bass off and on for about 17 years and it is definitely a man's world, so female bassists tend to get my vote) Jaco Stuart Hamm Tony Levin John Lodge (Moody Blues)---Nights in White Satin is THE reason I wanted to start playing. It isn't a complex bass part but it is so full of feel that it is amazing. Sting Aimee Mann (Til Tuesday) Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads) Meshell Ndegeocello Sean Yseualt (White Zombie) Johnette Napolitano (Concrete Blonde)

Again, in alphabetical order:
Adam Clayton John Entwistle Kim Gordon Geddy Lee Sting
Hmm....that's about it. The bassist is too often the lesser of the two guitarists, almost an afterthought (Heck, the Rock Band game didn't even include a bass career option).

My favorite, but not necessarily great for his guitar skills: Gene Simmons...
