Chasin' down a Hoodoo...

« on: June 04, 2009, 12:44:49 PM »

 Browsing a used book store yesterday, I chanced upon this gem for $30.US.  I think I may have stumbled upon a real gem.  Has anyone heard of or own this book?

Yes, I've read through.  What I wish the OSB were.

A hasty quarrel kindles fire,

If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;

Talking about ArchangelsBooks.com and what they have on offer... http://www.archangelsbooks.com/products.asp?cat=Orthodox+New+Testament - isn't this translation of the NT an Old-Calendarist one? Does anyone recommend it?

^^I have both volumes of the New Testament that you referenced to; as to your question though, I'm not sure how Holy Scripture can be Old Calendar or New Calendar?  The notes and quotes used are from (mostly) early fathers and used to explain and expand upon Scripture only.

 Re: Grace For Grace:...  It seems to be a wonderful spiritual help.  Anyone else have experience with it?

Thank you for this information.

I was asking about two different things:
1. Is it true that this translation was made by Old Calendarists?
2. Is this translation recommendable?

1. Yes, the monastery that made the translation is a part of the Genuine Orthodox Church of America which is an Old Calendarist church.

2. I like it and I would recommend it.
