I already have read the Apostolic Fathers and all of its contents, and I have the Nag Hammadi Library of early Christian Gnostic texts, and of course the New Testament!

What I am looking for is a large compilation that features writings like the Protoevangelium of James, the Acts of Paul and Thecla, the Apocalypse of Peter, the Infancy Gospels, et cetera all in one or two nice hardcover editions.  Any links would be appreciated.  I like having these things in print for reference, even though they are widely available online for free.

Excellence of character, then, is a state concerned with choice, lying in a mean relative to us, this being determined by reason and in the way in which the man of practical wisdom would determine it. Now it is a mean between two vices, that which depends on excess and that which depends on defect.

Well, I just wanted to let everyone know about this incredible resource and phenomenal deal I got; just what I was looking for a year ago.  This collection of 38 hardcover volumes is only $399.00, with the recommended retail price of $1100.00. This has almost everything imaginable from early patristics (Ante-Nicene and Post-Nicene), the Seven Ecumenical Councils, non-canonical early writings (many of which I've never even heard of!), et cetera. With shipping in the USA it all comes out to a cool $430.00. There is simply nothing else this affordable and extensive. I mean, come on! You get the entirety of St. John of Damascus' Exact Exposition of the Orthodox Faith, all of Chrysostom, and so forth. This is 19,288 pages total.

Whatever may be the estimate we put upon the opinions of the Fathers, their historical value is beyond all dispute. They are to this day and will continue to be the chief authorities for the doctrines and usages of the Greek and Roman Churches, and the sources for the knowledge of ancient Christianity down to the age of Charlemange."

Yup...it's a nice set.

There was a time (I don't know if it's still the case) when those in the Boston area could swing by the Christian Book Distributors warehouse sale (held three or four times per year) and snag boxes of these for even less. I know one person who got the whole set for $90. It was a mixture of two different runs, so the books don't perfectly match, but otherwise...very worthwhile.

Anyone know if those sales are still happening?
