Miracle in Aleppo
« on: April 08, 2009, 08:03:33 PM »
I first heard of this last week.  A friend of mine from Aleppo said her relatives who are still there called her to tell her of a miracle that was happening in the Armenian Church over there.  It's the Church of the Forty Martyrs.  She said the icons and khatchkars (crosses carved out of stone) were weeping oil.

Last Sunday everyone was talking about it at church and some people had pictures.  Aleppo is under the jurisdiction of the Catholicos of Cilicia, so His Holiness Aram has gone to investigate.  They say he has given it his blessing.

Please allow me to relate a similar miracle in Ethiopia.

In Northern Ethiopia, in a district known as Wouqro, is found the rock hewn church of Saints Abraha and Atsbaha. These are fourth century saint kings who officially introduced Christianity in Ethiopia. Their festival is Tikimt 4 (Oct. 12). Every year, on the day of their festival “milk and honey” exudes from the walls and pillars of this rock church.

In this same church is found a 25 Kg cross made up of gold and which was used by the two saints to baptize millions. This cross is known as “anbe’a meskel” meaning “the weeping cross”. Every year, on Tikimt 4, during the mass, this cross “sweats”. Hence the name the weeping cross.

I have never been to this church but have heard the story from eye witnesses and I have two books on my shelf that tell about this miracle.

Regards,

Hiywot

Two reasons. They obviously don't like what is going on. They also give hope to the Christians that Christ is truly risen through the form of a miracle.
Excellence of character, then, is a state concerned with choice, lying in a mean relative to us, this being determined by reason and in the way in which the man of practical wisdom would determine it. Now it is a mean between two vices, that which depends on excess and that which depends on defect.

I remember the Church: I have a history of Armenia in Arabic from there.  Syria doesn't like anything but Arabic (fine by me :P) but the Armenians have Armenian all over the place in Aleppo (fine by me too).  Relations IIRC are good, even with the Arab Muslims.

Btw, Salpy, can you take a look at the thread on the Immaculate Conception?  Your Church's "belief" in the IC is being promoted there.

Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
                           and both come out of your mouth

I have a question : Why do statues , icons , weep , cry ?

In this case, it was an obvious warning about the troubles and suffering that were to come.

I learned on Sunday that last week this church was destroyed by rebel shelling.  A number of Armenian and Syrian civilians were also killed during that shelling.

Lord have mercy.

The miracle of the weeping icons and khachkars happened six years ago.

Last week the church was destroyed by rebels, which is why I resurrected the thread.

Dan Romania asked his question in 2009. I don't think he read the answer.
