On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 November, His Eminence Metropolitan Nektarios of Hong Kong and Southeast Asia ordained as Deacon and as Priest fr.John Tanveer. The new clergyman lives in Lahore Pakistan and from now on he will be the spiritual father of our orthodox community in Lahore which has 400 orthodox faithful.
In Pakistan we have no church and for this reason the new priest will serve the Divine Liturgy and all the other Sacraments in his house.
Please pray for our new orthodox priest in Pakistan.

I might mention that his name is Arabic, meaning "Enlightenment/Illumination," and he is serving a land sorely in need of it.

Glory to God! I've heard of 3 Pakistanis over the last couple years who were interested in Orthodoxy. Now they will have a priest. Thank God!

This is rather an old thread that has been raised from the dead, but it is always good news.

There are other Orthodox in Pakistan and it isn't clear to me if the thread means that Father John is the first Pakistani Orthodox priest, since he is not the first Orthodox priest in Pakistan. I tried to follow the link provided but it was dead. Is there more recent news elsewhere?

There's an Orthodox parish at the Russian embassy in Islamabad. A priest comes from Russia twice a year to serve liturgy. Good to see the country has at least one permanent priest.

I was recently with Met. Nektarios, and, although we didn't talk much about Pakistan, my impression was that Fr. John was the first of several native men that His Eminence has ordained. His Eminence has also just managed to get the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom translated into Punjab, which the people on both sides of the border prefer to worship in.
