That latter one looks like it might be the Romanian New Martyrs under Communism.

Yes, there are presented Romanian Martyrs under Communism.
  Most of them iron guardsists.

::)
the reason not one of them has been canonized yet despite popular piety etc. the patriarchate realizes what a PR disaster that would be within the current climate.

"The current climate"?

Which Romanian New Martyrs are you referring to? Altho I doubt it, perhaps there's a sincere misunderstanding here. Please give us the names.

I'm referring to most of them.  check Valeriu Gafencu or Ilarion Felea off the top of my head.

As an orthodox it was really hard to get in trouble with the communist authorities. It had to be either links to the Legion, or, in some cases, being part of the no longer recognized by the hierarchy organization " The Lord's Army".

Which alternate Romania are you from? Or do you think posters here won't have read any of the copious available literature detailing life under Ceausescu et al.? There were methods of torture and psychological abuse implemented there that were objectively worse than under any other regime. Apparently you're counting on our ignorance to push your anti-Orthodox message, but no European or even American is that ignorant. What a shameful display.

Wow. Suitableness aside, those are much better than I was expecting.

Quite funny and interesting that most of the are Polish and Ukrainian.

This one is theologically interesting, as it reminds so much the icon "extreme Humility" of the Great Saturday and, moreover, Christ is put in a cross:

After some searching I've figured out that it's probably Leningrad. The Siege of Leningrad ended on her feast day (January 14th/27th).

Theodore of Novgorod

While it's hard to read out at first glance, the inscription above his head actually names him as St. Nicholas the Blessed, St. Theodore's fellow fool-for-Christ in Novgorod and a frequent sparring partner.

The icon on the right is of the Romanian Valeriu Gafencu, so presumably it's the communist prisons.

Where is the scene taking place?

http://www.johnsanidopoulos.com/2011/02/saint-valeriu-gafencu-new-confessor.html?m=1

Quote
A Vision of the Theotokos Before His Death

During the night of his last Christmas, towards dawn, Valeriu testified to his friend loan Ianolide:

"Amazed, I lifted my gaze and at the head my bed I saw the Mother of God, clothed in white, vivid, real. She was without her child. Her presence seemed material to me. The Mother of God was actually beside me. I was happy. I forgot everything. Time seemed endless. Then she said to me:

‘I am your love! Don’t be afraid. Don’t doubt. My Son will be victorious. He has sanctified this place now for future life. The powers of darkness are growing and will frighten the world still more, but they will be scattered. My Son is waiting for people to return to faith. Today, the sons of darkness are bolder than the sons of light. Even though it may seem to you that there is no more faith left on earth, nevertheless, know that deliverance will come, albeit through fire and devastation. The world still has to suffer. Here, however, there is still much faith and I have come to encourage you. Be bold, the world belongs to Christ!’"
"Verily they that seek Thee, Lord, and keep the canons of Thy Holy Church shall never want any good thing.”

The icon on the right is of the Romanian Valeriu Gafencu, so presumably it's the communist prisons.

Gotta love Iron Guard Confessors...

He was a twenty year old student wrapped in the youth wing of a questionable political organisation at the time of his arrest, who later gave deep examples of Christian life in prison. Labelling him an Iron Guard Confessor makes it sound like we canonised him for killing enough Jews or something.  :P
"May the Lord our God remember in His kingdom all Holy Catholic Apostolic Church, which heralds the Word of Truth and fearlessly offers and distributes the Holy Oblation despite human deficiencies and persecutions moved by the powers of this world, in all time and unto the ages of ages."

Anyhow when God was asked he said Eastern Orthodox is true Church and not Catholic Church. So come home and enjoy.

I would guess it's by Simon Ushakov or someone in his school.

Mor Ephrem is a nice guy.  Just say sorry and it will all be ok. Say I had things that were inside troubling me but I didn't know how to express appropriately. I will not behave that way again but I am seeking help.

Steve Jobs really is the Antichrist!

That is kind of a clever reference though- apples, original sin, etc. if it was intentional.
