Older posts with the corrupt characters

I have begun the process of cleaning up all the character encoding problems that we see in older posts.

The foreign language posts which were completed unrecoverable are being deleted.

Damaged characters in English posts are being corrected via a search and replace function in the database, which must be executed methodically and carefully so as to not ruin the database (of course backups are made).

If you made a post in the past that became corrupted, and it was for instance a quote in a foreign language which was ruined but the rest of the post in English is fine, please supply me with the link to the post and the correction if you have a chance (last time I asked a whopping zero people responded though).

Hopefully soon the older posts will be fixed and look nice again

Thanks. I was not good enough at MySQL database queries to be able to do this before, so I would have had to download a copy and use a text editor to search and replace.  The database is now 300 megs, so it kept crashing my text editor (even though it was supposed to be able to handle such large sizes).

Now that I know how to do these corrections inside MySQL directly, it will be much easier.

While the character problem is old and does not effect that many posts, it still is very annoying to look at.
