I was wondering, I was recently searching on Itunes for some Orthodox music and came across the Athens Byzantine Orchestra performing "The Best of Byzantine Music 12th century-20th century"... Yet I don't understand, it sounds like it came from the Middle East rather than Byzantium... Is this music that occurred after the Empire fell?
Also, is there any music existing that is Byzantine in origin? (That is, instrumental rather than Liturgical)
I would like to possibly add some more "secular" music to my library, since it is about 90% Orthodox and 10% secular (with about more than half of that being classical music). I love Orthodox chants and hymns more than anything, but often I like to listen to other things as well, especially when I'm working on architecture, and I just wondered if there was any ancient instrumental music I could listen to...
Even information on "folk" music from Greece and Russia other countries would be appreciated.
