Orthodoxy believes in Conciliar inspiration especially when the intentions are good. See the Ecumenical Councils, where the truth prevailed in spectacle with an utterance of 7 thunders.
Of course, for us Catholics it's been more like 20 thunders and a loud wet fart  :-\

I try to use religion for its useful purposes (ritual and community) without compromising my own ethical standards, which are higher than those of most religions.

Mor, seriously, be quiet. I'm getting tired of your rudeness and your nastiness. If you were someone else I'd take what you said as a joke, but given it's you just be quiet. You're an occasion of sin to many people here. It may be venial or small sin. But what is most tragic I suppose is the nasty little world you live in, but let's let you live in it in the company of hell. I myself am trying to remove myself from that company which is hard enough with all the other passions. I don't need your inspiring frustrations by your idle and rude statements. I know this is just a web forum, but every sin will be judged strictly. I may have a problem with mentioning sex or women, but I am trying to correct any passions I have that are dangerous to my soul. I'm not trying to be dramatic here and I don't care if you say I am. Lord have mercy on me and as for you I pray he has mercy on you or else may the devil justly take your soul. You reap what you soul, and so far you are reaping the nature of the demonic. The demonic mocks you see, accuses, and so forth. I have tried to patiently bare with you and ask God for forgiveness in any anger I have for you. I know it is just a web forum but the smallest sins can be our destruction, especially if we already are inclined to get angry. Someone else your clever little joke I would have taken in good humour. But you don't add that to a conversation but rather take from it by your nastiness. God have mercy on you.
Please don't project meta-debates onto me.

You can tell when you're fully integrated and no longer a "convert": You don't want to go to church anymore.

I have a simple rule of thumb....

If clergy wears a collar (e.g. dressed in black with a white collar) - I call them Father.

If clergy doesn't wear a collar (e.g. dressed in suit and tie or casual attire) - I call them Reverend.

Why not just call everybody brethren as Christ told you to?

I'm too busy calling them Despota.

I know this makes zero sense but something inside wants to start noisy whistling and applauding.

Because this:

makes people die inside.
But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

This Heimbach is almost as bad as those Arabs in Jerusalem who want a native hierarchy instead of Greeks.
Do you ever read what you write and think "This makes absolutely no sense and is unrelated to the topic that we are discussing"?

If you don't, perhaps it is time to start.

After a being involved on a couple of these threads, I am convinced that there are Orthodox people who think that God created two androgynous beings and the devil came along and stuck a ding dong on one and a hooha on the other.

God must of had some sort of Slow Growth Initiative in place given the logical future outcome of the situation. This is one of the possibilities. Advertisements by the snake, of course, caused the populous of two to reject the initiative, the first in the long line of using misinformation to thwart sensible growth decisions.

Bavaria really is a nice place to live, even though the sky here today is more a uniform grey with a tinge of blue uniform blue with a tinge of greyish white rather than a checkerboard of fluffy white clouds and brilliant blue sky. We do get that quite often though. Rain and sun at the same time, too.

I'm on the Wagen, but we're having Weisswurst for supper in a few minutes.

Eating them after noon (and drinking Diet Coke with them) risks a visit from the Bayerische Weisswurstpolizei, but at least we can show our Händlmaier mustard as a demonstration of good faith.

I don't think AN believes the Church to be feeble, but I think I side with him more than with you on this issue.  Orthodoxy survived atheistic regimes because the choice was stark: Jesus or no Jesus.  But when the choice is between Jesus and Jesus, it is not so easy.  As AN said, there are plenty of simple believers (and I don't say that in a disrespectful or disdainful way) who are Orthodox Christians but not so theologically well versed as to understand the difference between our faith and non-Orthodox Christianities.  They love Jesus, but they don't necessarily see the Jesus preached by others as something different.
In fact, there's much that is appealing about "the other Jesus" because he seems to require less and promise more.

Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;

But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

All opinions expressed by myself are quite tragically my own, and not those of any other poster or wall hangings.
