And frankly, your view of gender and transgendered people is disgusting, simple-minded, and materialistic.

I'm an elephant. Everyone who disagrees with me because I don't have elephant dna or tusks are disgusting, simple-minded and materialistic.

Tomorrow I'll be a cheetah, I think. No bigot can stop me.

Can you imagine the rumspringa that Yesh's daughters are going to have when they leave home? We will probably hear his howls of anguish all around the globe.

I found this gem (copied and pasted from a meme going around at the time) in an otherwise trainwreck of a thread. Enjoy!

!!! BREAD IS DANGEROUS !!!

Research on bread indicates that:

1. More than 98 percent of convicted felons are bread users.

2. Fully HALF of all children who grow up in bread-consuming households score below average on standardized tests.

3. In the 18th century, when virtually all bread was baked in the home, the average life expectancy was less than 50 years; infant mortality rates were unacceptably high; many women died in childbirth; and diseases such as typhoid, yellow fever, and influenza ravaged whole nations.

4. More than 90 percent of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread.

5. Bread is made from a substance called "dough." It has been proven that as little as one pound of dough can be used to suffocate a mouse. The average American eats more bread than that in one month!

6. Primitive tribal societies that have no bread exhibit a low incidence of cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, and osteoporosis.

7. Bread has been proven to be addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water to eat begged for bread after as little as two days.

8. Bread is often a "gateway" food item, leading the user to "harder" items such as butter, jelly, peanut butter, and even cold cuts.

9. Bread has been proven to absorb water. Since the human body is more than 90 percent water, it follows that eating bread could lead to your body being taken over by this absorptive food product, turning you into a soggy, gooey bread-pudding person.

10. Newborn babies can choke on bread.

11. Bread is baked at temperatures as high as 400 degrees Fahrenheit! That kind of heat can kill an adult in less than one minute.

12. Most American bread eaters are utterly unable to distinguish between significant scientific fact and meaningless statistical babbling.

In light of these frightening statistics, it has been proposed that the following bread restrictions be made:

1. No sale of bread to minors.

2. A nationwide "Just Say No To Toast" campaign, complete celebrity TV spots and bumper stickers.

3. A 300 percent federal tax on all bread to pay for all the societal ills we might associate with bread.

4. No animal or human images, nor any primary colors (which may appeal to children) may be used to promote bread usage.

5. The establishment of "Bread-free" zones around schools.
Facts unloading, please to wait

Two from the same thread:
Just imagine a bunch of Irish people who've gotten hooked on Bulgarian inspired American Polka music, decide to become Orthodox, identify as some kind of quasi-Bulgarian, fight and argue over who is "really a Bulgarian" and constantly talk down to Bulgarians about their own history and identity, and who can play Bulgarian American Polka music, and you'll sum up a bunch of recent threads including this one.

I'm shocked that on my first day back to this forum in months I find two people who seemed to be level headed believe in a 2nd black Jesus.

I didn't see anything in those writings that says that even if I give alms, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick, read the scriptures, pray and sing praises to God, if I have a hamburger and then hose my wife on Wednesday I am going to Hell.

At first I thought -- with reason -- this was talking about us converts to Orthodoxy.

Out of context, that is a reasonable assumption.

This is so true. I would like to buy more organic food, for instance, but it is usually so much more expensive and I haven't nagged a rich husband yet, so...

You can buy second hand. Also, when you buy new clothes make sure you buy something you can wear at least next five years.

I'm not trying to say that there is something wrong in principle with married couples observing abstinence from time to time. It's in the words of St Paul, not to mention several Fathers who otherwise taught clearly that marriage was honorable, including sex within marriage, like St John Chrysostom. What I'm concerned about is the kind of legalism that says, for example, that married couples are necessarily sinning if they have sex on any fast day. The fact is authorities differ on whether, e.g. all fast days are days of marital abstinence or just certain fasting periods. Fr Alexander Lebedeff wrote a good letter about this. And one must always consider individual circumstances, e.g. if a couple have been separated for a long time, e.g. the husband was deployed on military service, and they just got together but it happens to be Great Lent, it seems unnecessarily cruel to demand they wait until after St Thomas Sunday.

You have to take age into account also.  A very wise person once told me (my middle son) that he was told by a very wise person (a fellow diesel mechanic) that when you are over 50, you should never waste a woody and never trust a fart.
(emphasis mine)

You probably believe this way because you read the Bible.  Genesis 1:27-28 make that clear.  Unless Adam was supposed to lay next to Eve, have a wet dream and let the flies do the rest, they were having sex.

They couldn't keep it in their pants for one night?  What kind of sex maniacs are these Greeks?
The memory of God should be treasured in our hearts like the precious pearl mentioned in the Holy Gospel. Our life's goal should be to nurture and contemplate God always within, and never let it depart, for this steadfastness will drive demons away from us. - Paraphrased from St. Philotheus of Sinai
Writings from the Philokalia: On Prayer of the Heart,
Translated from the Russian by E. Kadloubovksy and G.E.H. Palmer, Faber and Faber, London, Boston, 1992 printing.

Forget about equality, just stop talking smack about women all the time.
It's the way that the little boys hiding behind their beards on this forum compensate for the fact they're afraid of women.

It ain't right, it just is.

I would never invite the Pope of Rome to participate in a joint prayer service at my icon corner, lest him praying with me render me heretical, and then by praying with my bishop I render the bishop heretical, and then my bishop praying with the Patriarch render him heretical, and on and on, so that within a few days the entirety of Orthodoxy would collapse.

How did I miss that?  LOL.

This thread has completely devolved from its original purpose.  ::)

That's Charles Martel.

Next: Jews.
Why's it always come down to jooz with you Mor?

Are you obsessed with them?

Oh Charles.  You're the reason why the Caliphate should rule the world and destroy the US.

I often get you and JamesR confused.  I think it is the very similar posting styles.  ;)

Granted, if you were my son, I would have already shot you.  However, it would not been out of hatred, it would have been as a public service.

Guilt isn't a natural feeling.

Aren't you the one toting around the idea that "everything that happens in nature is natural"?  Or is that only when talking about masturbation, fornication, drugs, tobacco, guns, etc.?
It's common knowledge that you secretly want to be born in early 17th century Russia.  As a serf or a royal, I know not.  Chances are serf.

As for the poll, I voted no as I agree with Kh. Frederica that it is hard to consider this possibility on the face of 2,000 years of continuous Tradition of male priesthood. I am open to change but I do not think that anything would be convincing short of the Lord or His angels directing us to change.

Even then, we would be told not to trust in visions, that they could be delusions, Satan can appear as an angel of light, etc.  ;)
OK, Thomas...

The untouchable and all-holy Mother of God is also "Panayitsa mou", who really will take your part before the court of heaven because, just like your own mom, she’ll always stick up for her children, no matter how badly they’ve behaved.
