How come God doesn't help me accomplish anything specific ... Even the President doesn't know how to do it.

This is my Church.  This is not a hobby for me.
Happy shall he be, that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Alleluia.

Once Christ has filled the Cross, it can never be empty again.

The see of Peter never failed in remaining a beacon of orthodoxy. Only polemicists with their roman hatred wish it fell.

What's your native language?

Computer languages, C++

Where do you live? Microsoft's main server? Or one of their hundreds of sub-servers? If the latter, we don't serve your kind here.

I don't think you make that determination.

If a couple engages in spankings for recreational purposes I can't object to it, except if they also spank their kids, which would add a perverse dimension; IMO the marriage bed is as a rule normally undefiled, although there are some fathers like St. Augustine who would disagree with me on this point.  But from my perspective if such spanking assists the couple in procreation, and the family doesn't use spanking on their children, then it's not a huge problem.  Although more extreme forms of BDSM are certainly problematic and indicative of sex addiction.

Of course it's possible. Show me a single Eastern Orthodox theologian who doesn't accept Chalcedon as Ecumenical. The Church as a whole has accepted it.

You're missing my point again. I am saying using the same criteria as you Eastern Orthodox have, the Oriental Orthodox have said just the opposite and condemned the Council. Thus, using the same criteria, there is an impasse.

Of course they do. They're wrong. It requires no more faith than believing that Chalcedon is Ecumenical just because the Pope says it is. I'm not seeing the impasse. Everybody has to choose one Church or the other anyway.

Btw, I'm not Orthodox yet. I'm working on becoming a catechumen.

I am the last person that would want to break this to you, but you live in a microenvironment.
Quote from: Fr. Thomas Hopko, dystopian parable of the prodigal son
...you can imagine so-called healing services of the pigpen. The books that could be written, you know: Life in the Pigpen. How to Cope in the Pigpen. Being Happy in the Pigpen. Surviving in the Pigpen. And then there could be counselling, for people who feel unhappy in the pigpen, to try to get them to come to terms with the pigpen, and to accept the pigpen.

I was reading emperor Justinian's quotes on Ecumenical Council, he was making fun of Platonic heretics, asking them, where did Platon get his teaching, surely not from God. It was so funny.

Sounds like a real knee-slapper.

This is a naked fact.  As factual as the sun rising in the east.

Can people actually be evil?

“Never confuse the person formed in the image of God, with the evil that is in him; because evil is but a chance misfortune, an illness, a devilish reverie. But the very essence of the person is the image of God, and this remains in him despite every disfigurement.”

Let me depict this to you, this is how pious men sound.
No! You dirty woman, no playing before the marriage.
Cover your head with rags, you sinner!
Don't even look at me, you will burn in hell.
Wash my feet.
Hand holding? Let me ask my pastor.
Oh my... now i must confess.
Obey me, it is in the Bible.
See that, that is masonic symbol.
No heels, you shorty!
No make up, you mock God's creativity!
We can play chess.
You want your belt to buckle, not your chair.

Oops!  Sorry Mor.

By the way, you're a handsome guy.   :)

Thank you.  In the fall of 2001, a song was released named "Dance With Me" which contained the refrain "If you're sexy and you know it clap your hands...".  I've been giving myself a standing ovation for the last thirteen years.

Lol, that's nothing to the private jet, aircraft carrier, fabergé egg and a shipping container full of splinters of the True Cross I got for my 15th birthday.

Maybe it's because the famous converts are lazy.  If they joined the choir (or, better, learned real chant), transliterated hierarchs' names properly, had a jurisdiction of the heart, came to hate the faith after a couple of years only to assert their superiority over new converts/catechumens, made it clear in every public utterance how their preferred group of "not us" is heretical, schismatic, and lost--you know, stuff real Orthodox converts do--maybe they would earn our respect.

In seminary, a local priest I was assigned to told me an amusing story about how a family insisted that he sacrifice a lamb and smear the blood on a sick baby.  He refused, and asked another clergyman from the 'Old Country' about it, and he confirmed it was a common practice.  With half the parish threatening to leave the church if he didn't, he relented with no little remorse.

A few days later, he was at the church praying, and waiting for the family to bring the lamb in from a farm in the countryside.  The cars pulled up, and all he heard was lamenting.  When he came out, he found the lamb was already dead: it had jumped out of the window of the station wagon when someone rolled it down due to the overpowering smell of lamb poop in the car.  A passing truck 'sacrificed' the lamb.

The priest considered himself the most blessed man on the Eastern seaboard.  He talked them into some Holy Unction.  The child recovered.  All was made well with the world.

Meanwhile, we can all be glad that our Confession rite does not involve chickens: http://www.globaltimes.cn/content/884421.shtml

I may have seen an Orthodox smurf but not really sure.
Please don't project meta-debates onto me.

I'd encourage others on here to grow up as well.

Man, that works on several levels.
It's common knowledge that you secretly want to be born in early 17th century Russia.  As a serf or a royal, I know not.  Chances are serf.

"Though I have never known a woman, I am not a virgin," as attributed to St. Basil the Great.

I was thinking something similar. Chastity involves more than just abstention from penetrative sex, which I think is what most people have in mind when thinking of "virginity".

Very true. it involves thoughts and the condition of the heart.

Well, actually I wasn't thinking of that, but I'll say no more.
