During its latest meeting in Beirut, the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) issued an official letter calling on church leaders to back the candidacy of Coptic Orthodox Pope Shenouda III for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.

The blog did not give any information on why the Coptic Pope of Alexandria should be nominated.

It sounded more like "we like the Pope, let's nominate him". (please note that I am criticising the blog, NOT the Pope)

More substantial news about this would be most welcome.
