Bryanskaya Oblast - Info?
« on: December 30, 2008, 06:27:40 PM »
Recently discovered my father is from Russian Ancestry from the district of Bryanskaya Oblast... using Y-DNA testing...

What is the state of the Church there?
St Basil the Great (330-379 A.D.): “I think then that the one goal of all who are really and truly serving the Lord ought to be to bring back to union the churches who have at different times and in diverse manners divided from one another.”

There is a Bryansk - Syevsk Diocese with bishop Theophilakt. I can't tell more because I don't speak Russian.

An excerpt from the site that Mike mentions, in my translation into English:

Bryansk Eparchy includes the territory of the Bryansk oblast. The Cathedra is located in the city of Bryansk. The Eparchy includes 18 "blagochiniya" (decanates). These have their centers in the cities of Bryansk, Sevsk, Novozybkov, Pochep, Pogar, Trubchevsk, Starodub, Zhukovka, Kletnya, Vygonichi, Zhyryatino, Dyat'kovo, Unecha, Klintsy, Karachev, Mglin, and Brasovo. The incumbent Archpriest is His Grace Theophilact (Moiseev), the Archbishop of Bryansk and Sevsk.

By January 1, 2007 the Eparchy included 163 parishes and 10 monasteries (6 for men and 4 for women). The services are held in 151 parish church buildings, 25 other buildings and 29 chapels. Twenty-one buildings are currently under construction or being blueprinted. The clergy includes 167 priests and 18 deacons. Overall there are 185 persons who have been ordained.

Is that the Nat. Geo. genography project?
Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
                           and both come out of your mouth

It was through Genebase - The DNA Ancestry Project.
