Seems like Playboy has been feeding too much candy to its imagination.

Here's more on the issue: http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/americas/12/15/playboy.virgin.mary.transcript/

Quote
Playboy Mexico has said the cover was not meant to portray the Virgin Mary, despite being printed just days before the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe -- both Catholic holidays centering on the Virgin Mary.

And despite the model wearing a Virgin Mary-like head covering and standing next to a stained glass window, with the words "Te Adoramos, Maria" just below the model. As they say, if it looks like a duck.... ::)

Huh. I always found Playboy to be tame, especially it's pictorials (in my pre-Christian days). Interesting that they went with something that they had to know would be controversial.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

For a moment, I thought some billionaire Mexican Playboy was ridiculing the Virgin Mary until the reference to the magazine.

Can't we just let them slip into irrelevance?  All the attention is exactly what they want.

The ploy seemed to work to get them some attention. They have to do something to get subscribers anymore, the porn online is free and generally of better quality. ;)

Q: What can we do that would really tick God off?
A: I know! Let's talk about sexually exploiting his mother?
Q: But this is a Catholic country, so His Mother is seen as their mother. Won't this be a bit sick?
A: Yeah- Oedipus Complex! Let's kill two birds with one stone.

I'm positive that God isn't happy about the desecration shown towards the Theotokos, but don't you think the editors were more concerned with how they could tick off the faithful instead?

BTW, how did you get the minutes of the meeting?

I'll keep it clean...unlike the several other hypocrites around here, I'm more than willing to admit that I've watched it. I'm not going to explain why it's better, but I'll say why I've known it's better. But, truth be told, I've only read about five playboys in the last decade, most of which were in the last couple years, so maybe I don't have a complete understaning of the quality of their pornography, but I've seen much better stuff online than I've seen in playboy.

But, I'll be the first to admit, none of it's better than the real thing, whether it's free or your paying for it ;)

Why would you pay to have sex with a woman?  Sadly at the age of 23 I'm still a virgin (pathetic), however like you I don't consider sex outside of marriage to be sinful (since, like you, I reject the concept of sin) but it seems that much of the physical joy and pleasure of intercourse (or any other form of sex) would come from making someone you love/care about have physical pleasure through the said action.  I've had a number of friends who have had multiple partners who have told me that the most pleasurable experiences where the experiences they shared with someone they loved/cared for.
I don't know, just my thoughts.

Hey, you're certainly right...it's better when you don't pay for it. But some night either that's not an option or its just too much trouble to go out and get it that the trouble offsets the benefit. I mean, even if it is a friday or saturday night, you still have to go to the club, probably spend $60-80 while there, risk a(nother) dui, etc. for, what?, maybe a 25% chance of getting laid? (for those of you who fare better than 1 in 4 nights...keep it to yourselves.  :P  ;) ;D). If you find the right girl you're almost better off laying down the $150-200. And while it may not be 'ideal', don't fool yourself, it's still good. Oh, and while I certainly agree that getting her off is a big part of it...if you find the right 'lady of ill repute' who half likes you (on top of your pocket book), that isn't out of the equation by any stretch of the imagination.

(why do I see this being moderated...despite answering a legitimate question...oh well... ;))

The director of playboy Raúl Sayrols is certainly not of Mexican origin.

They're now attempting to control the medias in this country, just as they do in yours. That's why they are increasingly funding projects whose explicit intention is to mock and discredit the Christian faith and all what the Mexican people consider to be holy.

Another example of this is "Father Amaro's Crime", a movie shot by a certain film director named Valentin Pimstein, with scenes that are totally blasphemous and offensive to Christians (especially Catholics and Orthodox Christians).

But wasn't that book written by a Portuguese person who was Catholic?

That's one possible interpretation I guess. I think you know me well enough to know that I'm far from a "prude", but I don't that think most of the other mods are either. In fact, I'd say none of them are. I've spoken about human sexuality with most (if not all) of them. The ting is though, as Orthodox Christians, they have a different understanding about sexuality to yours.  Whether you consider this being "prudish" is immaterial actually, the fact is, sex is considered sacred, special, set-apart by Orthodox Christians, and this is an Orthodox Christian forum. We speak quite openly about sex on this forum, but we speak openly about sex from an Orthodox Christian perspective.
I actually don't think anyone had the right to ask you about your sexuality, and I'm sorry that they did. Whether you personally use pornography or pay for sex is nothing to do with them. Nor has it anything to do with the topic of this thread. I have no idea why it was even asked or discussed, or why anyone would possibly be interested.

Well, as you at least implied we are sexual being, whether you believe this to be by some divine plan or a simple result of a billion years of evolution, people tend to like to talk about things that they might very well not have a right to know within current social norms.

But truth be told, it really doesn't bother me, anymoreso than someone asking me my favourite food or why I prefer this cuisine to another. There you go being prudish again ;)

GiC,
I'm not being prudish. What I was trying to gently tell you is "I'm not interested in your sex life, and this thread isn't actually about you how much you enjoy it and the details of how you do so, any more than I'm interested in what your favourite cuisine is." I can understand that you see food and sex as interesting parts of your life, but why would you think that I would find your preferences among them interesting?

"I really love pasta with chili infused olive oil."

"How interesting."
"And I also love chocolate covered coffee beans."
"Fascinating."
"And I love deep fried camembert"
"Amazing"
"I'll give you my recipe."
"Great, but right now I have to go over there and talk to that person...."

OK, let me issue a mea culpa.  I never did intend for GiC to actually answer my question (and I wouldn't want to know; it was a joke!) nor did I intend for the thread to go into other territory which we should have left untread.

Do you expect Christ-like conduct from an apostate person?

That's beside the point.  Even if he were apostate (whether someone else says he is or he himself declares it), I'm going to do everything I can not to judge though those of you who know me know that I am very, very inconsistent and poor at this.  But, people can surprise you.  They would even surprise Christ at times (e.g. the centurion with the dieing servant).  I'll try to give the benefit of the doubt.

Still, mea culpa.  I apologize.

Interesting, I personally often have extended discussions about the qualities, or lack thereof, of various cuisines, be it the classic debate between Paris and Tuscany or a conversation on the differences between Vietnamese and Cambodian cuisine...it's a facinating subject. You should really get out more. ;)
