At a used book store today I picked up an old copy of the Anglican Book of Common Prayer 1662. I was wondering would it be heretical to use the morning and evening prayers if I were to add say an akathist to the theotokos, hail Mary, Salve Regina or something at the end of the prayers. I can't see anything overtly heretical except that there are no mention of saints the prayers are mostly just a few collects and the psalms. The prose is so beautiful I would love to use it but don't know if I can.

I think this is one area where it'd be best to ask your priest. I can't see a huge issue with using it, but then on the other hand I don't see why it'd be a problem to just use an Orthodox prayer book. I'm not familiar enough with the BCP to say anything beyond that, sorry!

The Antochian Western Rite makes use of Morning and Evening Prayer forms adapted from the BCP and using the 30 day Psalter
The vespers is extremely close to the BCP's evensong. |

We own a BCP, but we do not use it. The morning and evening prayers are remarkably similar, but there are two important differences: (1) a prayer to the Theotokos is absent, and (2) the Filioque is included.

Where are those available at? For hard copies, I got mine directly from St. Luke's Priory Press, but that was from an ad in "The Word" I believe. Their web site is still under construction. http://www.forministry.com/USWAOCCNASNAOC/This site says the Ambrose Hymnal is for now reserved for new members of the vicarate, but a new edition is contemplated. http://www.members.cox.net/frnicholas/Hymnal.htmI've noticed that a lot of the WRO parishes, for obvious reasons, have a lot of liturgical stuff on their web sites. When I was at one parish two weeks ago in Orlando, I picked up a Western Rite little red prayer book (those in the Antiochean archdiocese, and perhaps others, know what I am talking about). Depending on where you are at, you might stop by a Western Orthodox parish. |
