CLIFTON, N.J. - Police are looking for a man they said fatally shot his estranged wife during services at a New Jersey church and badly injured two other people.

Officials said about 200 people were inside St. Thomas Syrian Orthodox Knanaya Church in Clifton during the shooting Sunday. The shooting was in the church vestibule.

Police Capt. Robert Rowan said 24-year-old Reshma James died at a hospital. Two other people are in critical condition. All had been shot in the head.

"A 27-year-old California man suspected of fatally shooting his estranged wife and a man in a New Jersey church waived his right to extradition on Tuesday, hours after he surrendered peacefully to authorities at a Georgia motel.

The suspect, Joseph Pallipurath of Sacramento, is accused of shooting and killing his wife, Reshma James, 24, inside the St. Thomas Syrian Orthodox Knanaya Church in Clifton, N.J., a suburb about 15 miles west of Manhattan. Police identified the man who was killed as Dennis John, 25, a church director; he was listed on the church membership rolls as Dennis John Mallosseril, reflecting the religious family heritage. Witnesses said he tried to intervene and stop the violence..."
