Latin for all occasions
« on: October 29, 2008, 04:09:38 PM »
A very lovely, funny Web site:

http://www.columbia.edu/cu/augustine/arch/omnibus.html

I particularly like Purgamentum init, exit purgamentum; Atque memento, nulli adsunt Romanorum qui locutionem tuam corrigant; Cum homine de cane debeo congredi; and of course Die dulci fruimini.

Nice stuff.
"If you are going to serve the Lord, be prepared for times when you will be put to the test. Be sincere and determined. Keep calm when trouble comes. Stay with the Lord; never abandon Him and you will be prosperous at the end of your days. Accept whatever happens to you. Even if you suffer humiliation, be patient. Gold is tested by fire and human character is tested in the furnace of humiliation. Trust the Lord and He will help you. Walk straight in His ways and put your hope in Him. " Sir 2:1-6

And now I'm jealous that you know and teach latin. LOL
"For, by its immensity, the divine substance surpasses every form that our intellect reaches. Thus we are unable to apprehend it by knowing what it is. Yet we are able to have some knowledge of it by knowing what it is not." - St. Thomas Aquinas, Summa contra gentiles, I, 14.

Oh, I know how to deal with Internet trolls! If I see a next nasty posting of a troll, I'll reply, "Heus, modo itera omnia quae mihi nunc nuper narravisti, sed nunc Anglice?" And if he shows signs of being at a loss, I'll add, "Vah! Denuone Latine loquebar?"  ;D ;D ;D

^ You could also try this one: "Nihil curo de ista tua stulta superstitione."
"It is remarkable that what we call the world...in what professes to be true...will allow in one man no blemishes, and in another no virtue."--Charles Dickens
