Forgive me if the request seems simplistic in the grand scope of things: Our oldest son Sammy (5 years) has an appointment for a root canal today, its his 2nd one and it's really really hard for him to understand- and he has his dad's resistance to novacane (I can chew thru a 4 hour dose in 20min).

We would much appreciate your prayers.

Holy Father Patrick, pray for us!

ironsiderodger, dare I say it helps immensely if the dentist uses nitrous oxide sedation before giving the local anesthetic, and keeping it on for the duration of the procedure. It doesn't work in all cases in adults, but it is really great for helping little ones relax and be able to cope with any dental treatment. Novocaine? Hasn't been used for decades. More like lidocaine, its second cousin. It might also help for the dentist to use (on you, and on little Sammy) marcaine, which is a much longer-lasting local anesthetic which also gives a deeper level of anesthesia.

My friends (here and in Heaven) thank you so much for your prayers!

Well, while he kind of made the dentist a little deaf, my wife- who is extremely perceptive- really felt that the experience was definitely better than his previous visit; she knew his pain, was controlled much better and she had a much improved overall feeling about this visit. Sam is tired, but that's okay.

I must attribute this also to all the praying- even though his compsure (and goodness he's only5) dropped in the office, before and after he has had such a sweet spirit of peace about him like I had not seen before- and this is a kid who (bless him) can make coffee nervous.

Lord, have mercy.  Glad to hear it went well.

My three year old has had to have boils lanced and drained, twice.

I understand the horrified looks and the hearing loss accompanying doctors' office visits.
