St. Barbara, patroness of the Field Artillery

« on: October 25, 2008, 10:45:46 AM »

It's that time again, when during the U.S. presidential election, everyone threatens to move somewhere else if their candidate of choice loses, then fails to follow through when it actually happens.  So, for all you Americans, where is your exile destination of choice?

(Anyone who decides to make this about politics rather than where they're moving will have their posts promptly moved to the Politics forum, in a new individual thread for each person who so offends.)

Me, I'm thinking Galt's Gulch, CO.

We're moving to Rogersville, MO. It's about halfway between each of our workplaces, so it'll be more convenient than where we currently reside.

Even if my candidate loses, America is still the place to be.  In two years, though, well, I think I might move to Salzburg, Austria.  Visited there over the summer and it was superb.  Definitely up for consideration in a few years if things happen the way they may.

Ukraine, Slovakia (the city of Bratislava or Komarno), Czech Republic (Prague or Brno), Austria, Germany (the latter two will be difficult because I don't know German, but I'd learn...)

I fleetingly considered reversing my grandfather's action and jumping BACK onto a ship for anywhere else, but wifey didn't like that idea. I can at least get by in a Spanish-speaking country, but Greece is no better than staying here and Turkey (real home) is out of the question.  Undecided

If you had asked me a few years ago, I would have said my ancestral homeland of Ireland. However, with the most recent world financial troubles the Celtic Tiger is starting to look like they are slowing down, and may not be too accepting of immigration.

I almost emigrated to New Zealand in the early 1980's. Maybe I would go there, or maybe Australia....whichever one will take me. Beggars can't be choosers, after all!

Alaska, although technically still in the US. It might as well be another country because it is so far removed from the normal federal goings-on.

LOL. Veniamin, this is funny. I visit some political boards and there are ALWAYS people making this threat. What I haven't heard yet are the claims of any celebrities threatening to move out of the country if so and so wins. Doesn't Barbra Streisand normally make this threat every election cycle?

So, lemme see now.  If you're candidate doesn't win, you and the missus are moving...9 miles away?  That'll show 'em! Cheesy

Father, let's say you did decide to move. Could you do it? I mean, do priests do this once in a while---not just change eparchies but countries?
