Variable Portions of Matins and Vespers
« on: October 18, 2008, 08:15:05 AM »
Im wanting to serve Reader's Matins and Vespers on Fridays Saturdays and Sundays, but when I read the Horoglion, I got confused especially on the variable parts, (liek the Kathisma).. I hope someone can elighten me on them, on how to do them, and where to find them..
Many Thanks!  :)

Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
                           and both come out of your mouth

I think this will help you as well.  These instructions are from the website of Bishop BASIL of the Antiochian Diocese of the West and Mid-America.  You will also need, besides the Horologion, the Little Octoechos (or Parakletie) for the appropriate hymns for weekday Vespers and Orthros.

Can anyone please recomment a site (aside from saintjonah.org), that gives the variable portions of Typika? I have a problem with the inconsistencies of dates since saintjonah's uses the Julian (i think), and the feasts dont match up when i consult my archdiocese's liturgical calendar..
