EXTERMINATE!

It's come to my attention that Matushka Barbara Sokolov, widow of the late Archpriest Victor Sokolov, pastor of Holy Trinity Cathedral (OCA) in San Francisco, fell asleep in the Lord Sunday after a long battle with lung cancer. May Matushka Barbara's memory be eternal! Pray also for the five grown children she leaves behind, especially since they lost their father to the same illness just 2 1/2 years ago.

I was thinking of posting this too. Thanks. Memory Eternal. I'll be at church for at least the first portion of the Panakhida tonight and should be at the Funeral, DL and internment later on. This is really a tragic few years for that family. Fr. Victor was only 59 and Mat. Barbara only 56. They have 5 kids, and the youngest had just graduated High School and is starting her first semester at UC San Diego. They started a blog at www.prayersforbarbara.com if anyone is interested.

May her memory be eternal! The first parish my wife and I attended after we were married was Holy Trinity Cathedral back in '98. Matushka Barbara was such a wonderful women. We still have the book on marriage Father Viktor gave us one evening when we ate dinner at their home. May God be with her family.

Lord, have mercy. Dear Lord, please grant eternal rest to your loyal and faithful servants Protopriest Victor and Matushka Barbara, and comfort their family and friends.
Elisha, thank you very much for the link.

And their second youngest daughter has been attending Sunday Liturgies at my parish in Portland, OR, while studying at the University of Portland.

May the Lord God remember His Servants, Fr. Victor and Mat. Barbara, and provide strength and comfort for their 5 children as they cope with the sudden loss of their parents.
May their memories be eternal and everlasting. Amen!

Wow...this is a real shock! Just last fall she attended our Antiochian women's retreat when Fr. Tom Hopko was our speaker. She and her late husband were very good friends with Fr. Tom. I was wondering why I hadn't heard from her this year. + May her memory be eternal +

Victor was the Rector of Holy Trinity in San Francisco (on Green & Van Ness, not Brotherhood Way - which is a GOA parish for those of you who don't know), the Sokolov's own a house up in Healdsburg and thus physically much closer to my parish. The sickness was a tragic shock to everyone in our parish too - even though everyone (including Mat. Barbara) pretty much just found out in June/July. The cancer quick and aggressive and probably discovered way too late unfortunately. The kids are 18 - 30ish. Tragic to be orphans now.

Just an update to inform everyone that one of Fr. Victor's and Matushka Barbara's daughters, Anna, graduated from the University of Portland (Oregon) today with a double major in history and German studies. (I witnessed the commencement ceremony from my place as a trombonist in the university's community orchestra.)
May God grant young Anna Sokolov many years!
