Several brands of baby formula made in China have been recalled due to melamine content.  The US shouldn't have much to worry about since Chinese formula doesn't meet standards to be sold here, but still, that's pretty scary.  Anyone know statistics on breastfeeding in China?

According to NPR, many impoverished parents are now leaving home to find work and consequently are increasingly reliant on formula. They gave no statistics, just a case study of one mother who found herself in that subject and was a victim of the Sanlu Dairy Co.

Just following up with a Reuters article.  Apparently breastfeeding isn't promoted much in China and formula companies make "wild claims" that are misleading (such as ingrediants that make your child smarter if they use the formula).  Formula companies in the US make claims like that too, they just work around the system enough to know how far they can take the claims.
