Hi, I found something interesting on eBay last night, and figured this forum would be the best place to ask this.

Here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3234955538&category=13769&rd=1) is the link to the item. Could someone please tell me what the Russian language inscription at the bottom means?

Much appreciated!  Grin

Not Russian AFAIK it's Slavonic.

Spasi i sokhrani

Save and protect.

Commonly found on the reverse of crosses, etc.

P.S.  Looking at the listing I see it has " Old Russian Icon with words: Save and Protect [Spasee ee Sokhranee]. "

Thanks much, TonyS!
D'oh - I actually missed that in his listing. Not getting enough sleep these days. Thank you for verifying the meaning for me!

To tell the truth, I'm not sure I even knew of a Slavonic language until I began researching Orthodoxy, so my ignorance will be showing all over the place as I post!

Thank you again for taking the time to assist me.  Smiley
