I've read that the Trisagion prayer comes from the Syrian Church, and that originally it was addressed to Christ, but that when the Byzantines adopted it they changed to whom it was addressed, and made addressed to the Trinity instead.  I've read this mostly from non-Chalcedonian, Oriental Orthodox sources.  Is this accurate?  Or, is there something I'm not aware of from these sources?

I'd have to check on this, butyou are correct that it was the Byzantines who insisted on this hymn as being Trinitarian and who flat out resisted changes that would make the hymn only centered on Christ with "Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, who was crucified for us, have mercy on us."  However, I don't know who came up with the hymn first, the Byzantines or the Syrians.

It was the chalcedonians who came up with it, and the non-chalcedonians (namely armenians) who altered it.

There are two different stories of how the hymn came about. The OO say it was sung at Christ's burial, the EO say it was heard by the inhabitants of Constantinople during a great earthquake in the early 5th Century. In both cases, the origin of the hymn is not Syrian.

Peter the Fuller's Christological additions to the hymn, however, are Syrian.

I would say this is a fair way of looking at the Trisagion.  No one knows the intent of the Trisagion.  Some say it was Christological and some say it was a Trinitarian hymn.  But I think it would be polemical to say one took it and changed it without showing us proof.
