Dear folks,
Today - which is celebrated this year as the St. George the Great Martyr Feast Day in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church! - I found this letter in my mailbox:
******************
Manuscript No.: BBAPRO-07-493R2 Title: Bovine Viral Diarrhea Viruses differentially alter the expression of the protein kinases and related proteins affecting the development of infection and anti-viral mechanisms in bovine monocytes. Authors: George V Pinchuk, M.D., Ph.D.; Sang-Ryul Lee, Ph.D.; Bindu Nanduri, Ph.D.; Kelly L Honsinger, B.S.; John V Stokes, M.S.; Lesya M Pinchuk, M.D., Ph.D. Submit Date: Nov 28, 2007
Dear Dr. Pinchuk:
We are pleased to inform you that the above-named paper has been accepted for publication in Biochimica et Biophysica Acta - Proteins and Proteomics.
Your article will be published rapidly in electronic form, as well as in the traditional print journal in the first available scheduled issue.
Shortly, you will receive an acknowledgement letter detailing information regarding proofs, reprints and copyright transfer.
We once again thank you for your contribution to BBA - Proteins and Proteomics and hope that you will continue to submit your research articles to the journal.
On behalf of Dr. Friedrich Lottspeich, Yours sincerely,
Laura Wallins, D.Sc. BBA - Proteins and Proteomics
***************************************
Honestly, I AM BEYOND WORDS. BBA ("Biochimica et Biophysica Acta") is a top-ranking international journal. The initial review by the journal's two anonymous reviewers was so tough that we almost lost all hope. Still, we persevered and now the paper is IN PRESS!!! (I haven't had any serious peer-reviewed publications of original research since 2003, just a few abstracts and one book chapter... all teaching, teaching, teaching...)
Glory be to God for all things!!!!!

Excellence of character, then, is a state concerned with choice, lying in a mean relative to us, this being determined by reason and in the way in which the man of practical wisdom would determine it. Now it is a mean between two vices, that which depends on excess and that which depends on defect.
