Christ is Risen!
Despite having a fall on Holy Wednesday, I managed to get to the Paschal Liturgy at the Monastery of St. George with the help of a walking stick, some friends and some analgesia!
Here is a photo of the Paschal Proclamation in the outdoor chapel:
Christ is Risen! He is Risen indeed!

Oriwiio tsi sotonnheton!
http://srbigham.com/wav/mohawk.wav

This last week was one of the most wonderful and difficult weeks we have ever had. We managed to attend at least one, often two services a day all week as a family. And with three kids that is a feat! I will be sad to attend on my own next year with my kids, but the 2010 Pascha will be a major one for our family. I look forward to it. And the celebration today made up for all the services we drug our kids to all week. And by volunteering to work for the preperation for, and the festivites on Pascha we were able to get to know a great number of people.

NO ONE knows how to celebrate like the Orthodox in our opinion. We had a whole pig, a bar, a irish band, games, an easter egg hunt....and a ton more. We are so happy to be Orthodox now!

Seven baptisms at my church Saturday:  a middle-aged couple whose son and daughter-in-law were chrismated in our church last year, and a young couple with their three kids (a 5-year-old boy, 3-year-old girl, and 10-month-old boy)

May God grant them all many years!

A blessed Bright Week to everyone.  Christ is Risen!  It's a beautiful Bright Monday here in San Antonnio (even if my stomach is quesy, and I feel like I'm suffering from a post-Pascha food hangover.  Bet I'm not the only one out there.  Fasting followed by gluttony is not advisable.  Cheesy)

I know the feeling.  After the Paschal Liturgy, everyone hungrily filed into the dining hall and kitchen.  Well, some people were handing out beer (I won't mention any names but their initials are Orthodox Bagpiper Grin) before I had a chance to get any food down.  After JUST TWO, my girlfriend was teasing me mercilessly! Cheesy Cheesy (For the record, I only had two.  Beers, that is. Wink)

It is a colloquialism that is usually used to indicate surprise and amazement. Some others that might be used as a synonem in this context is "man" or "wow", not to mention the less preferable options. But a word of caution. It is also used by some or in certain situations to be a less-offending alternative for a common explictive that I do not wish be more specific about on this board.

Han er sannelig oppstanden!

Is that German?

One of the priests at my parish shouted the German translation of "Christ is risen!" to us Sunday morning and got no response, which prompted him to throw his hands in the air and shout in mock frustration, "No one here speaks German!"  The scene was quite funny. laugh

Looks Danish or Norwegian to me, or at least one of those Northern languages.   Tongue  Icelandic maybe?

Kristus er oppstanden!

Han er sannelig oppstanden!

Definitely not German  (Christus ist Erstanden! Wahrlich Erstanden!).  Checking another source, it looks to be Norwegian.

My response to our priest shouting in German and getting no response was, "That's not fair!"
