Update: No good news, no quick recovery.
While on life support, he developed a serious respiratory infection (too much fluid in the lungs), and the last two brain scans have shown minimal to no activity. They are performing another scan tomorrow (Monday), and if it doesn't turn out well, they will be extabating him (i.e. removing the breathing tubes).
He's in this position partially because of his own mistakes, partially because of the mistakes of others. May the Lord have mercy on him and forgive him, and shine His countenance upon him and keep his soul.
