What a riot! Of course, it doesn't address many parts of growing up in a Greek household, and hearing phrases like (I'll put them in their translated form - it's much funnier that way) "you want to eat wood?" (i.e. a spanking) and "you dumb eggplant!"

LOL! Lord have mercy! I heard every one of those admonishments growin' up but the one's that scared me the most were 'Wait til your daddy gits home." and "I'm grabbin' a switch (a small but unbreakable, flexible branch from a Hickory tree capable of reaching long distances), boy!"  Thanks for bringing up traumatic childhood memories, Ozgeorge.  Oh, the switch. My mom used forsythia branches... yeow! The branch grows around 3-4 feet long and no thicker than a finger. forsythia
