How about sometime in August before school resumes?

Didn't we earlier decide on the DC area?

That's the last I heard too.

I live in Maryland and would be willing to handle the details of renting a Picnic Area in one of the parks around here for the day.

Here is an example of one:

Just need to get enough people to commit to a specific date.

Prodromos,

My wife's parents spend 6 months out of the year in Agrinio (where she grew up) and Mytalini (where he grew up).

I am usually over there in the winter for 3 weeks or so.

I have been meaning to get up to northern Greece. Maybe next time I will detour up to Thessoliniki to see you.

Of course, summer get together mandatory.

I think we had narrowed it down to either: Raleigh, MD/DC area, or PA.

PA is too long a drive for us southerners, like David, Frobisher, Myself and others.

I like the idea of having it near MD/DC, we can go to divine liturgy at St. Nicholas or any other church.

Ideally, late July or sometime in August would be perfect.

What's the consensus?

My vote is for a weekend in mid-July. That way we won't be in the midst of fasting and we can enjoy the North's one month of warm weather Wink.  j/k. D.C. sounds good since it's a good hub for both south and north.

DC in July sounds good to me too.

Vote for August --

If you all could make it the first weekend in August then I would have available an Apartment across the river in VA where people could stay for free for the weekend.

2 bedrooms, 2 full baths.

That way the brothers and sisters who might not be able to come because of the cost of staying over Sat night could still come.

It could accomodate 10 people if some of the younger guys would sleep on the floor in sleeping bags.

That would be awesome, I put up a poll thread, so I hope everyone votes.

A general headcount would be great,  that way we can go ahead and plan our activity, so please if you think you will be going, go and vote.

Nice, I would be cool with taking a sleeping bag and a portion of floor.  Smiley

I look forward to seeing you then Smiley. We should be getting a visit from a Mo'Nachos member in the next few weeks. He is coming to spend some time on Mt. Athos. When you come visit, we'll make a point of going ourselves. It may not be so comfortable in Winter but there are far fewer "touristy" types on the Holy Mountain (and I hope that means they won't have the generator running at Koutloumousiou Sad)

DC sounds like a good idea, and everyone seems to like the "Hub of North and South" Idea

Obviously DC is very convenient for me, as I live in Northern Virginia.  There are a number of nice Orthodox Churches here as well if anyone's interested in a liturgical tour during the vespers/vigil time frame (if you time it right, you can catch the English vigil at St. John's ROCOR, part of the bilingual Vigil at St. Nicholas OCA and part of the Greek Vespers at St. Sophia's all in one afternoon as the churches are pretty close to one another ... the latter two are practically across the street from each other, in one of the more embarassing episodes of Orthodox overlap).

St. Sofia's & St. Nicholas, that brings back memories.  I used to live in a group house next door to St. Sophia's.  I had a view of the National Cathedral, GreekFest every couple of months in the car-park behind the house, and easy access to vigil if I didn't feel like taking the bus over to St. John's (out the back door, cross the car-park, cross Mass. Ave. and there's St. Nicholas).  Ah well, Falls Church has it's advantages as well.

Now where were we? Oh yeah - the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn’t have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

How goes it with the neo pagans Tom? I've seen evidence of them up here in Thessaloniki too.

John.

They... are growing...  Angry

within the next ten years we will be in trouble!
Pagan propaganda is excelent, and well organised. People posing as "Atheists" bashing the church, are in almost EVERY Greek internet Forum. They are determined , and fatinatics. Have you seen the movie "American History X"? Remember how the hero was? They are EVEN MORE fanatic!

Greek Neopagans , are linked with Nationalism , Racism and satanism/witchcraft. I've seen People being literally BRAINWASHED so the only thing the know is that Ancient Greece was TOP and The eastern roman empire (aka byzantium) slaughtered Greeks, and had nothing to do with Greece. Of course, this, to anyone that has read history is ABSURD, but most people havent read history! You know how do they call Orthodox? JudeoChristians. They dispise everything jewish, of course. This is Neonazi propaganda, with a religious face..

The neopagans are anti-jew , but in a metaphysical sense! Some neopagans say that Greeks are a different ALIEN tribe that Came From Andromeda and that the Jews came too, from space, and they are the natural enemy.   :cwm3:
 Roll Eyes
 Sad

It sounds TOTALLY stupid (And it IS!) but most people here are suffering from the complex "I-come-directly-from-ancient-Greece".

It's like saying you come directly from your Grandfathers(A. Greece) and not your Fathers (Byzantium)

And the Olympics, which will be held next year, ARE NOT helping!

 :veryangry:

of course this is a phenomenon with limited life, but so was Communism, and it didint stop it from destroying a lot of people...

 Sad

In the next ten years, we will probably see a Temple of zeus or Athina, downtown Athens. Thesalloniki doesn't have such a problem, since people there are FAR MORE spiritual, than at Athens.

Just a few days before there was the annual celebration at Mt Olympus, with ANIMAL SACRIFICES!

huston, we have a problem!
