Wow - Full Orthodox Study Bible no longer a myth
« on: February 05, 2008, 06:06:00 PM »
I've held it in my hands.  After all the delays and talk, it actually exists.
"O Cross of Christ, all-holy, thrice-blessed, and life-giving, instrument of the mystical rites of Zion, the holy Altar for the service of our Great Archpriest, the blessing - the weapon - the strength of priests, our pride, our consolation, the light in our hearts, our mind, and our steps"
Met. Meletios of Nikopolis & Preveza, from his ordination.

Shame Fr.Chris you have brought this thread completely off topic with your divine humor  :laugh: back to the topic. To rephrase the first question Cleveland what were your first thoughts about the OSB so far?

Yes, and it actually is based on the LXX.
Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
                           and both come out of your mouth

In Antonio Banderas voice It looks better than I thought, but I must look into the various annotations carefully.  Oh yes, I must.

Father - you doubted my impressions?  I do a spot-on Archbishop Demetrios, and a pretty good Ketsetzis.  And the aforementioned Mr. Banderas as well.

Does anyone know if the leather bound version is out yet?  If not, does anyone know when it will be released?

Our church has a few copies in our library now. I didn't see any leather bound ones, though.

I don't think it's out yet.  No clue, but I think it's coming out soon.

Wow! We got our 2 cases out on display in the bookstore yesterday, and Pr. Lori reported we sold 23 Bibles then and there!

My women's study group planned on doing a new unit, where we actually study the formation of the Canon of Scripture...and I couldn't ask for better timing than to finally be able to point out to them this Bible.

Glory to God!

So tell us a bit about it.  Who publishes it?  How much does it cost?  What are your first impressions?

I pre-ordered mine from Amazon.

Amazon has the best prices, but they say they are not getting the OSB in until June.  Does anyone know why that is?  Has anyone heard that they may get them in earlier?

In our parish bookstore yesterday, we sold 24 of othe new OSB's.

We would have sold even more, but all we had were gone!

The commentary was not to my liking in the OT, and especially the fact that it is VERY limited (for each book).  IMHO
I got nothing.
I forgot the maps
March 27th and May 30th 2010 were my Ordination dates, please forgive everything before that

Our parish actually got the leatherbound the week before I opened the topic  OSB in the Review area.  We got the hardbounds the next week, there was about $16 difference in their price and I did not see much difference except for the cover in the paper quality between the two. See  review for my thoughts about it.
