Our parish recently had an abbot visit us from a nearby monastery. He co-celebrated the Liturgy with our priest. Afterward, the abbot read a letter to the congregation that was written by our priest. It stated that our priest loved us, his parishioners, and that he found no greater joy than being our priest... but he, most unfortunately, has developed Parkinson's disease and will soon no longer be able to serve as priest. He will not fully retire until a replacement is found (there was already mention of an anonymous candidate).
This all came as such a shock... most people were openly weeping. Our priest has been the spiritual father of many in the parish for over 20 years. Anyway, please pray for the health of our priest and parish, and that in God's perfect timing a new priest will be found. Thank you so much. God bless

Thank you both. Our parish knows that God is in control... there is no anxiety as to who will replace him, just much sorrow and concern for our spiritual father. He has been on a new diet for about a year now and it seems to be at least keeping his symptoms stabilized. Thanks again for your prayers.

As a matter of fact, I know someone with this illness, who also keeps symptoms controlled for several years now.
Bishop Maxim is a great Hierarch, and he deserved to be trusted in finding the optimal solution in this situation.

GLORY TO GOD! Today, as our priest was giving the final blessing at the end of the Liturgy, he said: "Many of you know that a few months ago I announced that, due to my Parkinson's, I am retiring from the priesthood. Well....... [dramatic pause]...... it seems that announcement was premature. By the grace of God my health is being renewed and I am increasing in strength every day!" At this point the entire congregation began crossing themselves as we cried tears of joy. Then the bells began ringing as the choir sang the triumphant song of Christ raising Lazarus from the dead. What grace, what consolation, what unconceivable joy filled our hearts as we gave thanks to God. Thank you all so much for your prayers! May the Lord's will be done in all things! |
