EXTERMINATE!

« on: January 16, 2008, 03:27:00 AM »

Is it just me, or has this forum's responsiveness slowed down quite a bit?  I noticed this both in Firefox and MS IE7.

This morning I received noticed in my email box that I had a private message, it was from Dec 2, 2007.

I rec'd a huge # (literally 100's) of those over the past few days, dating back weeks - some were dupes as well. Deleted them and dropped the thread subscriptions. Quiet since, but I've had no problems such as Peter describes.

Many years,

Neil

spoke too soon, just visited my e-mail and found another dozen plus - it seems to be auto-subscribing me ... Robert, help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been noticing it too, in waves.  Some times it is fine, other times it is cripplingly slow.

I'm having real trouble tonight using the site...it's either much too slow or doesn't work at all, unless it is refreshed a few times.  Anyone else experiencing this problem right now?

I haven't noticed anything too extreme, but it is definitely slower than usual.

I've received browser timeout error messages this morning (6/25) and at points last week.

Probably during 'bot' time as they search the entire site, daily it seems.

Again today, I am finding it extremely difficult to view or post on the board.

I also suspect the usual culprit - large, full-bore, non-board targeted searches of the entire database. I have noted that when I do a general, wide search of all boards, users, date-of-posts the search takes forever and yields disappointing results - very little as if timing out. The same search keywords, constricted by searching only likely boards, specific date ranges, and maybe users yielded 10X the results...and quicker.
