His Holiness Patriarch Pavle in hospital
« on: November 18, 2007, 05:28:39 AM »
His Holiness Patriarch Pavle is in the Military Hospital in Belgrade.  May God bless this truly remarkable and holy old man, the "saint who walks"  whose life and example has shed light to all the Orthodox world.

I second that, Father.
A truly remarkable man. I'll never forget the day I met him at the Serbian Orthodox monastery in Elaine (Victoria). I even received a blessing from him; the holiness he exuded was overwhelming.

I too received His Holiness' blessing when he visited our local Monastery here in the Blue Mountains, NSW.
His humility was completely disarming. He even helped me feed the monastery's cats after Liturgy and trapeza!

His Holiness is an example of pure humility. He seems so frail even when he was in good health. He prays for his Holy Serbian Orthodox church especially those Orthodox Christians that still remain in Kosovo.  Heaven knows they will need all the prayers we can muster up.

May God grant him many many years!

A pillar of sanity and saintliness in a maelstrom of insanity and the unholy.

God preserve him and grant him many years!
Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
                           and both come out of your mouth

My fiancee's priest (SOC) said he is in stable condition, but still under observation (as of Friday, I think).  His hospitalisation was due to his advanced age rather then an illness, etc.  God willing, he will be released in time for the Nativity.

He was told he was dying when he was 17 or 18 and a young novice.

May God grant him many, many years - He knows we need him.

He is stable now and almost fully recovered from the respiratory infection he had, I hear, thank God!

Patriarch Pavle's health deteriorating

December 17, 2007 11:34 AM

BELGRADE, Serbia-The health of the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Pavle, has worsened, doctors said Monday.

The 93-year-old patriarch is suffering from heart and other problems due to his age and is being treated at the Belgrade Military Hospital.

Patriarch Pavle has "heightened temperature, followed by respiratory and urinary infections," doctors said in a statement. No other details were released.

Serbian media have reported in the past month that the patriarch's life is in danger.

Has there been an update on His Holiness' condition lately?  Before they were hoping he would be able to officiate over the Nativity Liturgy, but now Vicar Bishop Atanasije of Hvostno will be.

His health has been up and down, but mostly deterriorating towards the end of December. Since then I havent heard much, but I think his situation isn't too good.

Very good picture.

I am very concerned for this holy man.

I pray God wills HH Pavle strength to endure this trial.

What I have heard about this holy man is that he does not go around with a big entourage, or ride in a limo or even a car.  Rather, he has been seen taking public transportation when moving around Belgrade.  I almost feel selfish asking God to grant him more years here on earth.  Imagine the glory that awaits him in paradise.  But we sinners need holy men like him to be among us, to inspire us and strengthen our faith.  I therefore pray God for His mercy, to grant His Holiness Pavle better health and more time here with us.  Lord have mercy.
