Isn't this title specifically for ArchAngel Michael as he is the commander of all the angels and protector of Orthodox Christians?  I thought it translated to The Brigadier General

It was an active military title in the Roman army as well.
"If you are going to serve the Lord, be prepared for times when you will be put to the test. Be sincere and determined. Keep calm when trouble comes. Stay with the Lord; never abandon Him and you will be prosperous at the end of your days. Accept whatever happens to you. Even if you suffer humiliation, be patient. Gold is tested by fire and human character is tested in the furnace of humiliation. Trust the Lord and He will help you. Walk straight in His ways and put your hope in Him. " Sir 2:1-6

Yes, Taxiarches is translated into Brigadier General; infact in modern Greek Army ranking system, Brigadier General is Taxiarchos

Hellenic Army Brigadier General/Taxiarchos/Ταξίαρχος

Its equivalent in English is something like Leader of the Cohort (Taxis-->Cohort+archos, from the verb archo-->to lead)

For the first time in years, we've re-worked the Posting Titles system in a minor/major way.

Minor?  We haven't added any new titles.

Major?  We've radically altered the posting levels required to attain each title.  We've essentially re-scaled the system to make it easier to attain titles at the lower levels, and much harder at the higher levels.  The new system:

Under the older ranking system, each of the top 4 were in their own category, followed by the next two, followed by a gap...  The newer system has compressed many of the higher-numbered users into lower groups that are now larger in span, giving them more to strive for.  Example of the effect: Isa was in the top (22nd) posting group before and was 4,000 above its minimum entry level; now he's in the 16th group and needs to more than double his current total to enter the top group.  (Similar stories for everyone in the top-10 above).

I like how in 2008, they were excited that a few people were beyond Archon.  Now, Archons are still relatively new posters.
The term planet earth is an innovation which has arisen in recent centuries with the error of heliocentrism.

If one wants to confess a pure doctrine of Orthodoxy, they should be careful not to refer to the earth as a planet, unlike the current Pope as well as Patriarch Kirill and Patriarch Bartholomew, who regularly speak in error when they refer to our planet earth.

The new posting levels will make it easier to ascend the "lower" levels up to Archon, with the same level set for Protokentarchos, and then it gets harder than before to ascend the higher levels.

Maybe this will encourage Asteriktos to return and strive to reclaim his former title.

Totally wasn't expecting that. I became a senior member with my 450th or so post, and was expecting to slowly climb up to High Elder, but I got a premature promotion. Why was the system fixed if it ain't even broke?

Totally wasn't expecting that. I became a senior member with my 450th or so post, and was expecting to slowly climb up to High Elder, but I got a premature promotion. Why was the system fixed if it ain't even broke?

Good question!  There were two areas where there was a problem:

- At the top.  Our levels only went so high; we now have at least 1 user (with more to follow) who have surpassed the top level and, if the system were expanded, would have deserved a higher title.  Instead of leaving the system as-is (with the top level collecting many more people and offering no further differentiation) or adding to an already large list of titles, it was decided to make the higher levels harder to attain.

- At the bottom.  The "lower" levels were super-condensed: about 99% of the members were clumped into the bottom 4 user groups (keep in mind that 82%+ of users are in the "less than 25" group), which meant that you had a good portion of the 17% of the forum that are below 3,500 posts trapped in the lowest levels.  To make the titles more descriptive of where someone was compared to the group, we made the lower levels more easily attainable up to a point (3,500 posts).

The combination of these two moves accomplished what we were shooting for: a distribution of users in each group that resembles the curve of 1/x rather than the wavy line it was before. The groups are better spaced based on people's actual posting patterns (shorter posting distances for lower levels, then larger ones, progressively increasing), rather than on completely arbitrary standards (OK, these 3 groups should be spaced by 500 posts, then these next 5 groups by 1000 posts, etc.).

Why do some users with over 1,000 posts, such as Marc, still only have one or two stars while users with less posts have more? I am just curious. Is it random, or is there some reason behind it?

There was a glitch with the way certain people were added to the Private Fora that keeps them at one star despite their deserving more.  We found the solution awhile ago, but not everyone who had been already approved for the private fora were fixed at the time.  Anyone who has just 1 star but more than 25 posts should PM me to fix it!
