I was wondering if any of the Orthodox here could help me with something that came up in a conversation with one of my fellow Catholics.
A little background to the question: the 1913 Catholic Encyclopedia claims that Cerularius' chancellor, Nicephorus, broke open Latin tabernacles and trampled upon the Holy Eucharist (because it was consecrated in azyme bread). (I believe this was, in fact, one of the charges contained in the 1054 bull of excommunication by Cardinal Humbert.)
The question is whether Orthodox agree that this incident actually occurred. My friend says yes, but that seems to me a little unlikely.
What say you?
Thanks in advance and God bless,
