I think that's a great idea.  I know other apps have been mentioned in various threads.  It would be nice to have the info in one place.  Feel free to be the one to start the thread.   Smiley

A beautiful hymn by St. Nerses Shnorhali, Nayats Sirov:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zs_aBptkKzA&list=PLFD9DA8FAD71634D4

It's sung so well by the children.   Smiley  I'm pretty sure this is from the Arevagal in Geghart CD I mentioned a while back in this thread.

The lyrics for the hymn can be found translated here:

So all people are talking about now is the wedding of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, otherwise known as Kimye.

I've never been a huge fan (I don't understand reality TV,) and of course Kim and Kanye's wedding was not Armenian Orthodox, but I thought I would post a link to some traditional Armenian wedding folk music:

This is from one of the prayers of St. Nareg.  It is sung during the Husgoom (Rest) Service at night.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNAonCbuxXw&list=UULnmf0o-6lCEO7fKdi_7cgg

Quote
Accept with sweetness almighty Lord my bitter prayers.
Look with pity upon my mournful face.
Dispel, all-bestowing God, my shameful sadness.
Lift, merciful God, my unbearable burden....

Read the rest of the prayer here:

http://www.stgregoryofnarek.am/book.php?parent_id=13&type=2&type_1=none

It starts part way through section C of Prayer 12

Not music, but videos.  These Liturgies were celebrated in the context of the Eight World Syriac Conference, held at St Ephrem Ecumenical Research Institute (SEERI), Kottayam, India, from 8-13 September 2014.

West Syriac Rite:

http://youtu.be/SAqJjWlCpeo (celebrant, the Rev Dr MP George)

East Syriac Rite:

Two comments/questions, Mor:

1. Thank you for these!  The West Syriac Rite is so heavenly without the organs/keyboards.  It's a real treat for me.  If you can tell me where any parishes which chant unaccompanied might be located here in the NY/NJ/PA area, I'd love to visit.

2. I'd be thrilled to find out that the East Syriac rite was preserved somewhere in our communion, but these guys are under the ACoE, right?

Yes, and for all the faithful.  Good grief, keyboards are horrible.

Which one?  The first and third Liturgies were celebrated in SEERI's chapel, if I'm not mistaken, and the second was celebrated at the Orthodox Theological Seminary.

Ah, I had only watched the first and third. That second one is beautiful, too. I liked the iconography in the other.

The video says "Chaldean Church", but he is Metropolitan of the Assyrian Church in India, no?

The Assyrian Church in India is known as "Chaldean", for some reason. (Mor, do you know why? I've never heard why, from either Indians or Iraqis.)

 Smiley

I am sorry, I don't know the exact translation.  However, I believe that the meaning is taken from two other songs; "Those Apostles" and "Paul the Blessed".

Those apostles;
 Chosen, sent by God, they went
 To ev'ry place,
 Through all the world
 Gentiles heard from them the news
 The Gospel grace.
 They proclaimed-the kingdom,
 Heav'n's rule-of freedom,
 For the faithful bliss.

 Paul the Blessed-
 Saint, the Lord's Apostle, said
 If one comes to preach to you
 Other doctrine than we knew,
 Be he man or angel bright,
 Curs'd be he in Church's sight;
 Doctrines all diverse arise,
 Shooting up with many lies;
 Blest is he who first and last
 Trusts God's truth and holds it fast.
