« on: November 14, 2007, 05:32:22 AM »
hi all!
I would like to know the lyrics of these two songs.I have found wonderful cd from Divna Ljubojevic and I wish to know the original text and translation.Did any of you learn how to sing this way? This would be really cool but I am not sure it is possible in Austria. Is there anyone from Austria?

Is there anyone from Austria?
Welcome!
I'm from Australia- that's only two extra letters, so they can't be that different!

HRISTOS ANESTI
Greek:
Χριστος ανέστη εκ νεκρον,
θανάτο θάνατον πατήσας,
και τους εν τους μνήμασι,
ζωὴν χαρισάμενος!

Transliteration:
HristOs aNEsti ek nekrON
ThaNAto ThanatON patIsas
Kai tis en tis MNImasi
zoIN harisAmenos

Translation:
Christ is Risen from the dead
Trampling down death by death
And on those in the tombs
Bestowing life!

AXION ESTIN

Transliteration:

Axion estIN os aliTHOS
MakaRIzien se tin TheoTOkon
tin ayimaKAriston kai panaMOmiton
kai miTEra tou theOU imON
Tin timioTEran ton heruVIM
kai endoksoTEran asinGRItos ton seraFIM
tin adifthORos, theON logON tekOUsan
tin ONtos theoTOkon, se megaLInomen.

Translation:

Truly you are worthy
to be blessed Theotokos (God-birther)!
You the holy-blessed  and Ever blameless One,
And Mother of our God!
More honourable than the Cherubim,
And more glorious than the Seraphim!
Without stain, you gave birth to the Logos (Word)!
The True Theotokos (God-birther), we magnify you!

If you're living a happy life as a Christian, you're doing something wrong.

May I disagree with only one minor point in the transliteration?  At the beginning of Axion estin, the "A" in Axion should be emphasized.

Axion estIN
"O Cross of Christ, all-holy, thrice-blessed, and life-giving, instrument of the mystical rites of Zion, the holy Altar for the service of our Great Archpriest, the blessing - the weapon - the strength of priests, our pride, our consolation, the light in our hearts, our mind, and our steps"
Met. Meletios of Nikopolis & Preveza, from his ordination.
