Hi all,
The long awaited server move is going to be taking place tonight. Over the course of the weekend you may notice sporadic access to OC.net. Please be advised that this is temporary and part of the pain in switching over our hosting provider.
Also know that we've finally invested in something substantial that will hold the weight of our site (e.g. no more white screens!).
Look forward to seeing you on the flipside, Robert

I hope by wrong you mean windows. I can understand your argument for Windows in business applications, but Linux is the default server platform. Period. To answer your question, they installed the wrong version of Linux.

Just an update....imported a test dump of the database successfully and pulling up a beta forum. Might have a few folks try it from their end before we go-live to verify it works. Stay tuned...

I can understand your argument for Windows in business applications, but Linux is the default server platform. Period. I think you misread my post. I was displaying my disgust at the very concept of using windows as a server platform. By jove, I think you actually managed to insult me, something that while often attempted is seldom accomplished around here. Congrats.

Update 6:39PM EDT:
We're on the new server. The old server is currently redirecting any requests to the new one, so access may still me shaky over the next 24-48 hours. Please bear with us while we complete the migration.
PLEASE PLEASE send me a personal message or an email if you notice any issues related to performance, broken features, etc.

Remarkably evident performance difference.
Granted that few are logged on or viewing as guest right now, But I've thrown major searches at the database without a glitch. Great!

But when I first posted this message and then went back to the front page. It wasn't on the "Latest Messages" block at the bottom. Ebor

Yea, the latest posts box on the bottom isn't updated real time. It may take a few minutes before it appears there due to the way the buffering works.

I can't see it. NOTE: If I use Internet Explorer 7, the avatar shows as nothing but a red x, while Firefox blocks the avatar out completely. Something appears to have happened to make avatars appear more "hostile" to browsers, which I might be able to "fix" as a workaround at my end (which will work for me alone) by changing the security settings on my browsers. However, this really doesn't fix the problem for everyone else.

This is weird. Looking through this particular thread, I can see the avatars of people who are administrators or moderators, but not others. Yours and Ytterbiumanalyst's are red x's. I'll look more through the board and see what I can see.

It appears your avatar is saved as "avatar[number]". That number is your usernumber which you can see in the address at the top of your profile info. So it should be there (or just scroll through them until you find yours.) For instance, I am user #1 so my pic is avatar1.

Why won't avatars change right away when you change them like they used to? It takes several hours for mine to change when I am changing it.
