The search engine is very CPU intensive on the server, due to the indexing and search retrieval methods used. Since we're not exactly purchasing world-class webhosting, searchs (especially a few done at the same time) will occasionally run our CPU quota temporarily over, which will yield either a blank white page and/or other errors (including a broken search).
Unfortunately, due to cost restraints, we'll have to live with semi-working search functionality at the moment. Anastasios and I are investigating other hosting venues and hope to have this critical function working once again.
