Now HERE'S a Trojan Horse
« on: August 30, 2007, 06:51:13 AM »
From YouTube:

A guy drives all over Sydney with Trojan horse. (Note the only ones who turn it aside are the Turks.)

Language Advisory: Use of the s- and f- bombs are present.

Very funny.  It seems that the Turks were the only ones to learn from the past.

I'm reading the Iliad with my second year students and this would be a great way to finish off our reading.  Unfortunately, our school system has youtube blocked.  Apparently, too many of my colleagues used and abused youtube.

We need to come up with better ideas.  Like Trojan UN envoy, or a Trojan Greenpeace, or a Trojan Red Crescent, or a Trojan Peace Corps.

I love this show! It's called "The Chaser's War On Everything" and is full of political satire.
Here's one they did recently which shows the modern "Trojan Horse" is actually someone dressed as an American tourist:

I am a new fan of this show. I've seen a couple dozen clips on YouTube, and this is some of the best satire I've seen since Monty Python's Flying Circus. Is this show available on DVD (Region 1, of course)? Or is there an Australian channel on cable a la BBC America that may carry it?

Ah, the Reigon isn't that important...an applet like AnyDVD can take care of that little problem. ;)

The segment I linked to before is actually from their show CNNN, but it's the same guys, same humour.

Do they have it available for Region 1?  My DVD player can't run it in that format.  :'(

The "Chasers War On Everything" boys got arrested yesterday! You'll never guess what they did. Sydney is currently hosting the APEC meeting, and the Chasers formed their own motorcade with three black limos and managed to pass two security checkpoints and actually reached the hotel where President George Bush was staying. The funniest thing is that they managed to pass the 2 checkpoints even though one of them was dressed as Osama Bin Laden!

I have to admit that *that* made me laugh. I hope that the "Chaser's" people will be out of jail quickly, if they aren't all ready and that they will ok.

Well, a few days in jail is a small price to pay for completely humiliating the government's security...LOL. Good for them.

The funniest thing is that they had Canadian Flags on the cars in their motorcade! Mr. Bin Laden of Canada! :D

We showed our two oldest kids the Trojan Horse video (with a couple of language blips.)  They loved it and we talked about why it could have been so easy for the Chaser guys to get the horse where they did.  Things like: Sydney Opera House- it could have been a new prop; the race track- well it's a big statue of a horse and there are lots of horses there; History Department- an item for some kind of History shin-dig.  They loved the "Oi!  Shouldn't you look inside?" line at the Army.

Sidney Opera House-
That's "Sydney Opera House". Mr. Bush's press release yesterday spelled it "Sidney Upri House"! What is it with Americans and spelling?! :D

I beg your pardon.  I was typing in haste.  There was a news story last winter about a man from iirc Germany who wanted to fly to Sydney, but in a spelling error ended up with a ticket to SIdney Montana!!  He was dressed for your summer, while it was very much Winter in Montana, so some people noticed and helped him.   I have corrected my mistake.

At least Sydney/Sidney is only one letter and are pronounced the same.  The "upri" makes me wince.  errrggg.

I'll have to find it again, but I saw the "Chaser's War" piece where they go their motorcade through the security APEC people.. the "Ring of Steel" or something like that.  They just got waved past.  At least one quote of "The road's yours, mate."

Those guys have guts...nutty but with lots of nerve.
