Some beautiful hymns and chants on Ancient Faith Radio as I rejoice on this glorious morning of the Feast of the Assumption. I hope everyone has a wonderful, joyous, and peaceful day. :)

Herb Alpert: "Rise" (This one's got a kickin' bass line.)

And now for something completely different, Homer Simpson singing with Alpert's cover of "Spanish Flea": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yU1tiOczcWI

And while we're on the subject of music in The Simpsons, an old classic (with credit to the late Michael Jackson):  "Do the Bartman"

Football season is almost upon us again, which means it's time for that time-honored tradition of watching Charlie Brown try to kick the football from Lucy's hold with very painful results (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTUy_mlpgy4).  In honor of this, I thought it good to offer you Vince Guaraldi's great jazz chart, "Linus and Lucy".

LOL!  I just found this video of a 1981 TV special where Charlie Brown actually kicks the football out of Lucy's hold.

Currently, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. My brother introduced me to them several months ago, and the album has been one of my top 10 since.

Worship is theology, so a church which brings Evangelical and Charismatic "praise & worship" into its corporate life is no longer Orthodox.  It is, by definition, heterodox.  Those "Orthodox" leaders who make theological arguments for the incorporation of heteropraxis into the life of the Church are heretics.

"Heaven Knows" by Rick Price

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kl70X6BAp_k&p=1A942512CF6909FA&index=4&playnext=4

She's always on my mind
From the time I wake up 'til I close my eyes
She's everywhere I go
She's all I know

And though she's so far away
It just keeps gettin' stronger everyday
And even now she's gone
I'm still holding on
So tell me where do I start
'Cause it's breaking my heart
Don't wanna let her go

Maybe my love will come back some day
Only heaven knows
And maybe our hearts will find a way
Only heaven knows
And all I can do is hope and pray
'Cause heaven knows

My friends keep tellin' me
That if you really love her
You've gotta set her free
And if she returns in kind
I'll know she's mine
So tell me where do I start
'Cause it's breakin' my heart
Don't wanna let her go

Maybe my love will come back some day
Only heaven knows
And maybe our hearts will find a way
Only heaven knows
And all I can do is hope and pray
'Cause heaven knows

Why I live in despair
'Cause wide awake or dreaming
I know she's never there
And all this time I act so brave
I'm shaking inside
Why does it hurt me so

Maybe my love will come back some day
Only heaven knows
And maybe our hearts will find a way
Only heaven knows
And all I can do is hope and pray

Maybe my love will come back some day
Only heaven knows
And maybe our hearts will find a way
Only heaven knows
And all I can do is hope and pray
'Cause heaven knows
Heaven knows
Heaven knows

40:1 by Sabaton.  Some of our Polish posters (and WWII buffs) may find it interesting.  Its about the Battle of Wizna which had it's 71 year anniversary just a few days ago.

That's kinda old. I've listened to that song many times.
Sadly, Sabaton is overly commercialised. In the original released video, at the time of "Spirit, soul and heart in accordance with the old traditions" there was a scene of a Catholic Mass being prayed but in later versions that scene was cut out. They cut that out and replaced it with a cheap american-style sex scene between a sanitariuszka(nurse) and wounded soldier.

Here's a traditional Damascene wedding from the Syrian drama series Ahlur-Raaya, set in the time of the Ottomans.  As worthy of parody as Syrian acting can sometimes be, particularly because of the Damascene drawl (especially in the case of the women), it is this authenticity in the recreation of the past through traditional scenes like this as well as through the use of the old Damascene dialect and speech that I think keeps Syrian dramas ahead of the rest in the industry.

Of course the music here is religious music and Islamic.  The women's less melodious bit is, well, of a different vein, but a nice thrust of the palm in the face of modern sensibilities: "My dear is calling me, and he wants to eat eggplant."  ;D

I just found out about them a couple months ago on one of the WWII forums (starting to get interested in the Polish Campaign).  That's too bad about the commercialization.

Епизод - Батак

The song is about the Turkish massacre in the Bulgarian town of Batak which I've visited several times.  The skulls of the martyrs lie still in the old church.

the Ramones.  Constantly.

My band is doing a tribute concert at the end of October and I've been listening to the same 20 songs over and over and over and over and over again so we can get them right.

My wife, even though she probably likes the Ramones more than I do, can't wait for this to be over because I'm constantly mumbling, "1, 2, 3, 4!" under my breath as I go over the tunes in my head while putzing about the house.   ;D
