Not generally well known for his symphonic compositions, I'm listening to Schumann's 1st Symphony in B-flat "Spring" conducted by Leonard Bernstein and performed by the Wiener Philharmoniker. Schumann's symphonies, along with Mendelssohn's, sort of fill the gap between the romanticism of Beethoven and Schubert and the later romanticism of Brahms and Dvorak which which parallels the new leaps being made by Wagner, Bruckner and Mahler.

Been on a Romantics kick recently. Right now it's Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 8 in Eb Major, by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. An adult choir and a children's choir singing together--beautiful stuff.

Mahler, though I've finally started to learn to appreciate some of his music, is really post-Romantic.  The last of the Romantics, age wise, was Dvorak.

I can see that. I put him in the same category as Debussy and Ravel, composers who began their careers as Romantics, then made the transition to Impressionism. Certainly Mahler's style is a departure from traditional Romantic themes, and I can definitely see him as a bridge between the Romantics and modern composers such as Stravinsky.

*LOL*  Well, I don't have a distinct genre per se--I just listen to whatever (exceptions being Country, Rap, R & B, and Classical).   I love the Scorpions--I do not think there isn't a song by them that they actually released into mainstream that I haven't liked (that's kind of how Def Leppard is with me also).

I've never -had- an evil twin before!  Grin  Some I did however forget to mention was some Mudvayne and Type O Negative as well.

Israel Vibration: "We A De Rasta" (Dub Version)

Some great lyrics, such as:
"Give up your heart to the Creator, or else your troubles will be greater."
