My favorite for the 5th is von Karajan, of course, but my favorite for the 7th is Sir George Solti leading the Chicago Symphony.

The company I work for has seen a dip in profits, and although it is nothing major (especially compared to the global situation), the boss has called us all to work harder. What this means is that we all have to appear to work harder by putting in overtime. In my case this means staying late even though I have no work to do. My mother took me to see Itzahk Perlman perform with the Pittsburgh Symphony when I was 6 or 7 years old. I really trace my love of music in general and Mozart in particular back to that date. As for me, my ears are now being treated to the sound of the Hotknives' classic "Don't Go Away," which happens to be one of my favorite songs of all time |

Perlman was wondrous with Beethoven. I've never liked his interpretations of Mozart though. Perlman is a romantic and I think he tried to make Mozart's violin concertos fit a romantic style which was a generation past Mozart.

I can totally see (and hear) what you're saying. He's certainly a wizard with Beethoven. Rock on Nebelpfade. Dio has always been one of my favorites. I unfortunately missed him with Sabbath (now touring as Heaven and Hell) when they came through the area a few months back. That's a great song. I dedicated one of my blogs to it. I still think Ronnie James did his best work with Blackmore in Rainbow, but that's probably because I'm a guitar player. I still get goosebumps when I hear "Kill the King". |

Well, Dio was certainly backed by a better guitar player in Ritchie Blackmore than he ever was in Dio. I really liked Vivian Campbell and thought that Craig Goldy was just OK and that 16 year old was just bad. I liked the early Rainbow stuff myself. My favorite was "Stargazer" from Rising! Awesome song. And that whole lineup was good. You had Cozy Powell (RIP) on drums, Blackmore on Guitar and Carey on keys. Jimmy Bain wasn't much of a bass player, imho, but adequate to the task.
