BTW, were you able to decipher any of his lyrics?
No, sorry.

On another note... I was a huge U2 fan in the early 80's.
Musically, I still like U2 as a group, but I can't stand Bono or his goofy politics.

Bono really got the big head fast. But I guess I have to give U2 credit for sticking together for all these years. Not many bands that have achieved their level of success have stayed together. I think Bono is basically a good guy, but he does irritate me.

Selam
Well, I can say one thing for him: He is committed to his family. How many rock musicians do you know who have been married 25 years and have five children?

Very true. And I will say this: God help me if I had his kind of fame, talent, and fortune. I imagine I would be a lot worse than him!

I'm no fan of Joan Baez's politics, but she blows me away with this song here called "Virgin Mary." http://www.rhapsody.com/joan-baez/tracks.html?pagestart=650 [Click on  #652 "Virgin Mary"] It comes from her little known Christmas album called "Noel." The entire CD is beautiful, and all of the songs are Christian classics such as "O come, O come, Emmanuel," "Ave Maria," "Mary's Wandering," "What Child is This" etc. But "Virgin Mary" is my favorite of all.

If you decide to buy the CD, make sure to get the remastered addition that has the bonus tracks. There should be 23 tracks in all. The original release didn't have "Virgin Mary" on it. It may take some time to come in the mail, but it's worth the wait.

I wished I liked her other stuff, but I'm just not a folk music guy. Yet this one Cd of hers is one of my all time favorite CD's!

To sing these songs the way she does, she must have some degree of Christian consciousness. May God bless her for this beautiful work. I wish she had done more like this.

Hope you enjoy it.

Selam

Here's another great Pro-Life song from Lauryn Hill and Carlos Santana.  Check out the Ethiopian Icons in the background of this video!

It's worth reading the lyrics, which are based on Lauryn Hill's autobiographical account. You can read them here:

Wow ;D theres a memory from long ago, saw them live on that tour, at the California theater, in San Diego, one of my influences back then for playing Guitar, along with Yngwie malmsteen.

i'd have to say my favorite song off march of the saint was, Can u deliver.

I discovered this modern rendition of my favourite prayer-the prayer of the Optina Elders...But I don't understand the accompanying videography!  ??? :o What's with that??? This would  have been a great opportunity to do something beautiful and Orthodox, but instead-this!? It seems almost blasphemous.

Do ya think Peadar Kearney's tongue was in his cheek with this one, or was he talking about Eire's future?

Quote
I'll sing you a song of peace and love,
Whack fol the diddle all the di do day.
To the land that reigns all lands above.
Whack fol the diddle all the di do day.
May peace and plenty be her share
Who kept our homes from want and care,
God bless Mother England is our prayer.
Whack fol the diddle all the di do day.

Whack fol the diddle all the di do day.
So we say, Hip Hooray!
Come and listen while we pray.
Whack fol the diddle all the di do day.

When we were savage, fierce and wild
She came like a mother to her child.
She gently raised us from the slime
Kept our hands from hellish crime,
And sent us to Heaven in her own good time.

Whack fol the diddle all the di do day.
So we say, Hip Hooray!
Come and listen while we pray.
Whack fol the diddle all the di do day.

Now our fathers oft were very bad boys.
Guns and pikes are dangerous toys.
From Bearna Baol to Bunker Hill
They made poor England weep her fill,
But ould Brittania loves us still!

Whack fol the diddle all the di do day.
So we say, Hip Hooray!
Come and listen while we pray.
Whack fol the diddle all the di do day.

Now Irishmen, forget the past!
And think of the time that's coming fast.
When we shall all be civilized,
Neat and clean and well-advised.
And won't Mother England be surprised?

Whack fol the diddle all the di do day.
So we say, Hip Hooray!
Come and listen while we pray.
Whack fol the diddle all the di do day.

Depeche Mode: Sounds of the Universe
A friend recently gave me a copy of it.  Though there are a few songs that I liked almost immediately; "Wrong", "Come Back" and "Peace", the rest of the cd is too experimental for my liking.  One reviewer over on Amazon said something to the effect that it sounds like it was made in the '80's and I tend to agree (I can definitely hear the Kraftwerk connection as was pointed out).  I've heard enough of DM and Dave Gahan's solo stuff to believe that Martin Gore had more influence on this latest effort.  I just hope their next endeavor sounds more like "Playing the Angel" or, dare I hope, "Violator"?...

"Peace" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cB4z44VXTqI&feature=related

"Wrong" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2GaCnAiuvo (I think the vid was filmed inside Superman's 'Fortress of Solitude'.  :D

"Come Back" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRfjsh0o2kE (sound's not that great on this one...)

Hate reggae if ya want to, but do you hate Family?

Check out the latest CD from Ziggy Marley, our brother Bob's eldest son. It's called "Family Time." A great CD for the kids! Here's the video for the title track. No true Christian can hate positive family vibes! I dare you to not like this one!

Something I like about this thread is that it forces me to listen to music I wouldn't ordinarily listen to or even know about.

Reggae would be one of those genres, and yet I did like this "Family Time". Very upbeat and all, but of course, if you don't have a family of your own, it's a bit depressing. Otherwise, very nice.

Bluesy mood today, listening to Stevie Ray Vaughn, Texas Flood.  Some Eric Clapton on deck
Even satan himself can appear as an Angel of the Lord, and do good works in His name, to distract you from the path of True Righteousness

Ever notice that just like there is no age limit on stupidity, there is no IQ limit either? kind of explains a lot huh?

No, no. We all have a family! Especially those who are in Christ. The Church is our family; let us never forget.

Can't go wrong with Stevie Ray. I saw him in concert about a year before he died. I still miss him.
Ever heard about his Coptic Cross? Read about it here:

Just finishing up a listen to Black Flag's "Who's Got the 10 1/2?" (on "In My Head" now).
I used to love these cats back in HS... Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Schultz! :)

Does anyone like Lisa Hannigan? I just stumbled upon her beauty and work-I can really, really relate to this,"I Don't Know":

Not bad!  I think I like Ozzy's version a little more though; it's got more "happy" and "spunk".  That Ozzy; he's such a happy-go-lucky guy.  ;D
