Hollywood Undead's Swan Songs. I used to be unable to stand pop music in general, but I must confess I've come around to it and quite enjoy 'hip-hop' now. I'd post the lyrics, but it would probably get me banned.  If you give it a fair chance and allow yourself to embrace modern American popular culture, you'll find out you quite enjoy it. Not that it should be to the exclusion of Classical Music, especially from the Romantic era, such as Rachmaninoff...but it can be appreciated in its own way. |

Quite a bit of Rachmaninov (The Bells, Symphonic Dances), Vaughan Williams and John Tavener. I must try and hunt out some music by Arvo Pärt who I've heard recommended here. Tavener seems to get a bit more minimalistic with each new composition.
Often when I'm drawing or painting I listen to a fair bit of "Boards of Canada" and "Biosphere".

Speaking of the killers, I just read in the latest Rolling Stone magazine
Mistake #1: Reading Rolling Stone. that Brandon Flowers (the killers singer) is a devout Mormon.
Mistake #2: "killers" should be written "Killers'." For some reason, this creeped me out.

The soundtrack to O Brother, Where Art Thou?
I love that CD. I once had a priest who said if the Orthodox Churches in America were to create their own tones they should look no further than the music of the "old plain song" of the south and mountain regions to come up with tones that work with American English. An excellent example would be "Down to the River to Pray", "O Death", and "Po' Lazarus". All of them done accapella and with deep spiritual movement in the songs similar to the tones found in the Orthodox Church for impact to the soul of the listener. Thomas |

I dunno, I saw Metallica and Corrosion of Conformity back in '97, that was a pretty awesome show I'm jealous. I didn't see that one. CoC remains, though, one of the most underrated band of the 1990s. Deliverance is my favorite album. |

Since music is such an integral part of our lives, I was wondering what everyone is listening to? I just discovered a Lebanese gal name Maya Nasri (Hubbaaaa hubba!). I'm usually spinning something Irish or Arabic, but I like almost anything except for gangsta rap and the really heavy metal stuff... Feel free to list religious and secular favorites!

We've only been together since October, so no album yet, but we did record four songs in January for two upcoming releases, one a split 7" with another band due out this spring and a full fledged 45rpm single later in the year. You can check out really really rough demos of two songs on our Myspace page. Those are basically myself, a drum machine, and our singer in my bathroom (great reverb in there) recorded via a USB mic and multitrack recording software. As I said, they're really rough, especially "You Were Loved". Horrible singing in that one! |

My oldest son, Noah, was born on Bob Marley's birthday (Feb 6); and my other son, Zion, was born on the anniversary of Bob Marley's passing (May 11). Coincidence? Nuh mon! Like Bob Marley sings, it's a "Natural Mystic!" With a divine sign like this, it was destined that I should wind up in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church!
