I've also been listening to Kid A by Radiohead...can't describe it but I like it.
Radiohead is so unique they're beyond description. Kid A - great album. Currently listening to Fischerspooner, Cranes with some Interpol mixed in. |

Does anyone else remember the Scottish band "Big Country"? These boys rocked the house down! I remember listening to them back in the mid to late eighties and thinking, "How'd they get their guitars to sound like bagpipes and tinwhistles?" It's such a shame the lead singer hanged himself from clinical depression (exacerbated by the poison of rock 'n 'roll- alcohol), because these guys had the potential to give their Irish mates (U2) some serious competition. he has an awesome version of Close Your Eyes - just him and drums on Charlie Hunter's record "Songs From the Analog Playground." And the first five songs on his latest CD are all homeruns, especially "Tight" and a great new take on the Sinatra standard, "Won't You Change Partners and Dance With Me," although the Michael Franks tune: "Nightmoves" and the Randy Bachman tune "Undone" run a close second. |

We bought "Clapton". It's a 2 disc-set of his biggest hits in his 40+ muscial career. First songs are with Cream, then his time with Blind Faith (remember "Presence of the Lord"?), then with Delayney & Bonnie, of course Derek and the Dominos, etc. then goes on to his hits when he wasn't part of a band (i.e. I Shot the Sheriff, Tears In Heaven, and on).
He's an incredible guitarist and musician; no wonder he's been inducted 3 different times into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Not tryin' to scandalize y'all, but I've never been a big fan.  He does have a great blues cd that came out in '94-'95. I think it's called "Blues Before Sunrise". |

So when we're not listening to "Complete Clapton" for leisure, we're listening to:
The Syriac-Speaking People by Melih Duygulu. It is a hardback with 2 cd. Here's a synopsis.
The Syriac-Speaking People (Suryaniler) is 2-CD set with accompanying booklet presenting Syriac religious and folk music. The booklet, written in four languages (English, French, Turkish and Syriac), provides an introductory historical account of Syriac culture and identity. Analyzing Syriac history and culture under the umbrella of Christianity, it illustrates the important cultural factors that lay the groundwork for the supplementary CDs.
With 22 rich religious musical tracks, the first CD is a compilation of Syriac musical styles from around the globe, including India, Iran, Lebanon, Germany, Sweden and Brazil. Reflecting the enormous diversification of Syriac music, this anthology allows a listener to enjoy an array of musical styles in conformity with the liturgic principles applied in the Antioch Church and the Tur Abdin Church.
The second CD consists of 16 tracks of Syriac folk music. Using unique local styles of performers from regions where the eastern and western dialects are widespread, this CD is an excellent introduction to the exuberant array of Syriac folk music. The influence of Arabic and Kurdish styles adds to the range of intensity found in this collection.
